Chapter 1016: Spoils of War

Regarding the Thule Society President's approach of "we are ready to fight to the death, why surrender first," Liang En could only remark that history tends to repeat itself, and there have been far too many instances where the boss surrenders faster than the minions.

Besides, Liang En felt that the Thule Society didn't lose unjustly this time. After all, once they were exposed by the Golden Dawn during the conflict, countless forces naturally set their sights on them.

Based on the content of President Charles's recent statements, Liang En could pretty much confirm that those targeting the Thule Society likely included some of the most powerful entities in the world.

Given this, it was already quite impressive that the Golden Dawn managed to seize so many spoils. According to the data on the USB drive, most of these assets consisted of shares in some well-known companies.

"Bayer, Zeiss, Volkswagen, Mercedes, Coca-Cola, Citibank—no wonder the Thule Society has endured for so many years. At least in terms of wealth, they are not even inferior to the Golden Dawn." Liang En was shocked as he read through the list.

If there was a difference between the two organizations, it could only be that the wealth held by the Golden Dawn was out in the open, while the Thule Society's assets were concealed behind a series of intermediaries.

However, for Liang En, this wasn't necessarily a bad thing. At least, the transfer of wealth would be much simpler and wouldn't attract the attention of anyone, especially some bored individuals.

In addition to these shares, the other assets included a series of precious metals, deposits, and various artifacts, all of which were valuable from every angle.

However, after thoroughly reviewing the list, Liang En noticed that it lacked several key items, such as crucial documents or archives, none of which were found.

This naturally left Liang En feeling a bit disappointed, but also relieved, as not having those core confidential documents might mean fewer gains, but it also greatly enhanced their safety.

After all, secrets aren't always better the more you know; those that you can't use may just turn into an unstable bomb that could explode at any moment.

But this didn't mean there wasn't a single piece of paper left behind; for example, there were plenty of valuable books and some archives related to archaeology and history.

It was clear that the other organizations, hidden in the shadows and responsible for the destruction of the Thule Society, had been quite conscientious. At least the items left behind after their selection were indeed what Liang En and his team needed.

The only issue was that the value of these items was still uncertain. Since they were left behind, it meant they probably didn't involve any deadly troubles, but who knows what might be hidden within.

Since selecting these items undoubtedly took time, and a decision couldn't be made quickly, President Charles stood up to take his leave after a brief chat.

As soon as he left, Liang En immediately contacted his historical entourage and began analyzing which part of the spoils he should claim.

To be honest, distributing spoils is a task that requires wisdom and careful handling. For instance, if someone lets you choose first, it's a sign of their respect, but if you grab all the best items, it would make you look greedy.

Liang En naturally wouldn't make such a mistake. He only took the things he was interested in and didn't even glance at those he wasn't, no matter how valuable they might be.

Finally, after three days, Liang En and his team successfully completed their selection. Besides a small pile of Chinese artifacts, he chose shares in some long-invested, low-yield but stable enterprises to meet his compensation for this event.

These enterprises had one common feature: each had several, sometimes dozens, of contacts associated with them, and the ownership certificates and the identities of the investors and accounts frequently changed.

Behind each contact was an electronic version of the original ownership certificate and the corresponding dividend account and investor identity. While there might not necessarily be a real person behind these identities, they were at least legitimate on paper.

"These assets probably aren't just simple investments, because if they were, there wouldn't be a need for such frequent changes. So, I think this is more likely a money-laundering operation." After making his selections, Liang En spoke at an internal meeting.

"You're right. Normally, only money laundering or similar illegal activities would require such constant changes in ownership. Of course, some intelligence agencies also operate this way," Elizabeth nodded in agreement.

"However, you don't need to worry about any issues with these shares. If the true big shots behind the scenes agreed to let the Golden Dawn take these things, they wouldn't set any obstacles in this area, so the subsequent procedures should be relatively easy to handle."

"That's good. What I was most worried about was the difficulty in handling the follow-up procedures for these transfers." After hearing Elizabeth's expert opinion, Liang En finally felt a sense of relief.

"In that case, let's choose these items. President Charles is coming over tomorrow, and we can tell him our decision."

"Aren't you going to take a look at those archaeological notes? As far as I know, although the Thule Society liked to use rather unscrupulous methods, they did unearth some valuable artifacts in recent years."

When President Charles of the Golden Dawn came to Liang En's house again and saw the list they had compiled, he was slightly surprised and asked Liang En.

"You know, these notes don't just include what they previously excavated, but also many sites they surveyed but haven't yet dug up. I thought you'd be interested in those."

"I do value field archaeology, but you'll notice that my excavation targets are mainly ruins." Liang En explained the reasoning behind his actions to the president.

"For certain reasons, I don't actively excavate tombs. The problem is that this record book is mostly about tombs that don't currently require protective excavation."

"So for me, this data is of no value at all: holding onto a bunch of data for sites I won't excavate is practically the same as having no data."

"True, what's suitable for oneself is the best." After hearing Liang En's explanation, President Charles nodded slightly and said.

"We will expedite the procedures for you, but as you know, the Thule Society went to great lengths to cover their tracks, so even with sufficient external support, it may take several months to complete all the conversion work."

"No problem. As long as the job gets done, I don't mind waiting a bit longer." Liang En knew just how complicated this matter was, so he naturally wouldn't insist on a tight deadline.

"Oh, and this should also be given to you as compensation for handing over that silver plate earlier." After completing the handover, President Charles pulled out a note and a key and said.

"This is part of the Thule Society President's private wealth hidden in a Swiss bank. It's meant as compensation for the mistake we made earlier, and we hope you're satisfied with it."
