The Golden Dawn is essentially an organization similar to a mutual aid society. Although there are hierarchical levels, these levels only pertain to the exchange of knowledge and do not imply a strict superior-subordinate relationship.
Due to this sense of equality, situations like the one before require an equivalent exchange, sometimes even with additional compensation.
This belief in the organization’s equality is what creates its greatest source of cohesion: everyone firmly believes that each member within the organization is equal and that reason prevails here.
However, to be honest, such situations are extremely rare because the world’s level of detection for extraordinary powers is so poor that it can only rely on the most primitive resonance of extraordinary powers, making it nearly impossible to identify dysfunctional extraordinary items.
Therefore, unless there is sufficient evidence, like in this instance with the Thule Society, even the Golden Dawn wouldn’t be able to determine the true nature of these items.
The private wealth of the Thule Society’s president sounded very intriguing, but when Liang En and Jeanne followed the address to the headquarters of the Swiss Bank in Zurich, they found something quite different.
After going through a complex verification process and finally using the key to open the corresponding safety deposit box, they discovered that the president’s private wealth was not as substantial as expected.
“This is all there is—” Liang En showed a somewhat disappointed expression as he placed the suitcase-sized box on the table and opened it.
Originally, he thought that the Thule Society’s president, who could control an organization left over from World War II, would have a considerable amount of private wealth, but now it seemed that the wealth stored here was not much.
“Let's see what's inside; maybe the items in here are valuable,” Jeanne also looked disappointed, but she quickly recovered and reminded Liang En that some items’ value couldn’t be determined by their size.
“You’re right; it’s always better to take a look first.” Liang En showed an approving expression, then opened the unassuming suitcase and took out a small box made of rosewood.
Upon opening it, inside was a notebook with a black leather cover. On the cover was a golden eagle clutching a swastika, though the gold had become somewhat mottled due to the passage of time.
“What’s in here?” Jeanne couldn't suppress her curiosity after watching Liang En flip through the documents in the notebook for a while.
Although she could see the writing on the notebook, she didn’t understand German, so after a while, she asked Liang En what the notebook contained.
“This is a diary, a diary belonging to Peter Aufschneider about his expedition to the East,” Liang En smiled as he explained. “He was once a member of the German Eastern Expedition during World War II, hoping to find the Earth’s axis to help Germany win.”
“This diary records his journey to the East, and at the end of the diary is a list detailing the photos, films, and records obtained during that expedition.”
“Ah, I’ve heard about that expedition, but there are so many stories about it that I can’t tell what’s true and what’s fictional.” Jeanne immediately recognized the expedition.
This expedition has now become part of urban legend, but it contains so many fabricated parts that it’s impossible to discern the true history behind it.
“If that’s the case, I think you should now be able to understand what really happened.” Liang En pointed to the other boxes inside the suitcase and said, “These should contain most of the information from that expedition.”
Indeed, after opening the other boxes inside the suitcase, they found various storage media, from old handwritten notes to the most advanced color films of the time.
“It’s clear that they didn’t find the so-called Earth’s axis because Germany still lost World War II and didn’t transform the country back to 1939 to make the right decisions as they imagined.”
While Jeanne was examining the photos, Liang En took some time and effort to finish reading a document labeled as the final summary report, which was placed in a folder, and he also found the information he was looking for.
“As for the documents here, although they record a lot of detailed information about things like the local climate, geography, and even culture, they don’t include the most important part about the Earth’s axis.”
In 1938, the Nazis dispatched the “SS Schäfer Expedition” to the East in secret to search for the so-called ancient Aryans.
The Schäfer Expedition was led by naturalist Ernst Schäfer and anthropologist Bruno Beger. The team also included botanists, entomologists, and geophysicists, making it a gathering of elite talents.
The expedition heard from the local population about a peculiar cave called Shambhala, which supposedly hid an “Earth’s axis” that contained infinite energy.
If they could find this cave, they would obtain this limitless energy, allowing them to control time and alter the course of events. They would even become “invincible.”
Therefore, after the failure of the Battle of Stalingrad in 1943, the Germans sent out a second team to search for the Earth’s axis, and the materials Liang En and Jeanne found now are the documents left by this expedition.
According to the now public narrative, these documents should have been completely destroyed during the massive bombing of Cologne by the Allies in 1945. But as it turns out, they were hidden by the Thule Society until today.
“We can make a copy of this and exchange it with the Golden Dawn for something valuable.” After finishing the cleanup, Liang En said to Jeanne as they walked out of the bank with the suitcase.
“You know, the real value of these things lies in the information, so after we’ve copied the information, we can use the original items to trade for many valuable things.”
“Of course, as long as you think it’s appropriate.” Jeanne replied as she watched Liang En dragging the suitcase, “I believe these items can be maximized in value with the Golden Dawn.”
“That’s for sure. After all, the Golden Dawn specializes in these things.” Liang En said as he got into the vehicle they had driven there. He then turned around and added, “I’m sure everyone will love this collection.”
“At least this matter has come to an end.” As the car drove on, Jeanne suddenly seemed to recall something and said, “We’ve defeated an enemy that has been lurking in the shadows and also uncovered a secret.”
“Yes, it’s the end of one chapter,” Liang En replied with a smile, “but it’s just one chapter. For us, there are still many, many worlds waiting to be explored.”
“Indeed, countless worlds, some of which we’ve never even heard of in legends, are now laid out before us.” Hearing this, Jeanne also sighed.
“So, I imagine we’ll be very busy from now on, but this is the kind of busy I’ve been looking forward to. I can’t wait to explore those uncharted worlds with you.”
