Chapter 1011: Repairs and Trivial Matters

For the Space-Time Gate, there are two core tasks to complete. The first is to open a door using weak points in the space barrier, and the second is to accurately find the target and transport people or objects through the door once it's open.

The first operation of the Space-Time Gate only proved that breaking through the space barrier to open a door was feasible, which confirmed that Liang En's direction was correct.

As he made a few gestures, the ball of light within the door frame gradually began to extinguish, and the runes on the door frame, resembling flames, also gradually faded away.

"Why did you stop?" Joan of Arc turned to Liang En, looking at the metal door frame that had returned to its original state. "I saw that everything was running smoothly just now; we could have proceeded to the next step."

"Yes, but considering this is our first experiment, it's better to test it in stages," Liang En replied as he withdrew his hand from the door frame.

"Just like how a new aircraft only taxis during its first flight test. It takes several tests without issues before the plane finally leaves the ground and takes to the skies."

"That makes sense. After all, this door can reach places far beyond where planes can go. Being cautious isn't a bad thing." Joan of Arc nodded in agreement.

Although to outsiders she seemed prone to charging ahead without hesitation, that was not the case. Back then, she acted recklessly because it was the best option at the time.

So, in this situation, she supported Liang En's caution. After all, everyone was living quite well in this world, so naturally, no one wanted to be sent to a dangerous world or, worse, to be stranded in another world without a way back.

Once the extraordinary power on the door dissipated, Liang En immediately stepped forward to take down the door, then used a card to take Joan of Arc with him back to his home in Scotland, where he immediately dove into his workshop to begin his research.

As he meticulously examined everything, a series of previously unnoticed problems that he hadn't even considered before began to surface, leaving him clearly overwhelmed.

"It seems no matter how well you plan, issues still arise in actual operation," Liang En said, rubbing his temples with a frustrated expression after checking a component over an hour later.

"I remember you having good analytical skills. How did things turn out like this?" Joan of Arc asked, placing two plates of spaghetti on the table as she looked at Liang En in the workshop.

"But the problem is, the actual environment differs from the simulated one," Liang En said helplessly. "At least, the spatial forces at the weak points in the simulated space and the actual weak points differ significantly."

"As a result, I noticed that the wear and tear on the Space-Time Gate after the operation was much faster than expected. If we just went ahead with it, it could very well turn time travel into a one-way trip."

This problem was likely deliberately left by the original designer of the Space-Time Gate. For the designer, simply transmitting the message was enough, so a one-time-use Space-Time Gate wasn't unacceptable.

Moreover, in this world where extraordinary power doesn't exist, finding the right materials that meet the requirements is incredibly difficult. Under these circumstances, it makes sense that the Space-Time Gate would be designed for single-use.

Although Liang En had thoroughly overhauled the Space-Time Gate afterward, the inherent design flaws meant that despite repeated attempts at modification, some problems remained.

Fortunately, due to his numerous modifications, the number of issues that arose was not overwhelming. With the vast amount of data collected from real-world testing, he was finally able to address the most critical part.

"I'm glad to hear that, but Liang, it's time to eat. I suggest you fill your stomach before continuing, as this task probably won't be resolved in a short period," Joan of Arc said, raising her eyebrows at Liang En as she called him to the table.

"Alright, you're right. This modification will take at least three to five days, so the most important thing right now is to eat." Liang En said, putting down his tools and sitting down at the table.

To him, the work ahead was important, but there was no rush in terms of time, so he naturally planned his schedule more leisurely, without the need to hurry.

"By the way, I noticed that you've received a lot of packages recently. What have you been buying?" Liang En suddenly remembered something interesting he'd noticed earlier while they were eating.

He found it interesting because, as far as he knew, Joan of Arc wasn't someone who enjoyed shopping, so it was odd that she suddenly received a bunch of packages.

"I haven't bought much recently." Joan of Arc put down the forkful of spaghetti she was twirling and looked a bit puzzled. After thinking for a long time, she finally said uncertainly, "As for those things, they should be gifts from others."

It turned out that just half a month ago, the documentary Joan of Arc participated in had successfully premiered in France, and she had gained many fans due to her superb performance (playing herself).

Judging by the online feedback, people generally felt that the Joan of Arc in the documentary perfectly embodied the image of the historical saint, especially since she used many long takes during the filming, which was very rare.

Normally, in such documentaries, body doubles are often used, because an actor's talent doesn't necessarily mean they're versatile. So it's common to use a double for certain scenes.

But if that's the case, the film must constantly switch between multiple camera angles to avoid giving away any inconsistencies.

However, Joan of Arc flawlessly handled these challenges. Whether it was horseback riding, fighting, or dialogue, she didn't just do it; she did it exceptionally well.

For instance, during one scene where she mounted a horse by pressing both hands on the saddle, she stunned everyone. Even for trained men, this action isn't easy, let alone for Joan of Arc, who was wearing a full set of performance armor.

Although the armor was lightened for the sake of the performance, it was only slightly lighter than a real suit of armor, still weighing over ten kilograms. Being able to mount the horse using just her arms in such conditions was truly impressive.

Even in Joan of Arc's era, few fully armored knights could mount a horse this way. Most had to rely on the stirrups.

It's no wonder Joan of Arc attracted so many fans. Skills like these, which others can't easily learn, naturally earned her a lot of admiration.

More importantly, both her current status and her daily activities attracted countless people's attention, so it was only natural that she now received many gifts.

"I can't possibly use all those gifts, but it would be a shame to waste them," Joan of Arc explained the fate of the gifts. "So I simply asked the church to sell them and donate the money to their charity organization."
