Chapter 1010: Attempt

Liang En had previously encountered only a few extraordinary items, but he had already identified several common characteristics. For instance, all of these extraordinary items were made from materials known for their corrosion resistance. In a world where extraordinary powers had completely vanished, neither sophisticated design nor powerful energy infusion would have any effect. Instead, the properties of these unremarkable materials determined whether the items could continue to exist.

However, while these items still existed, the extraordinary powers within them had almost entirely dissipated. To be honest, if these items had been in this world for a longer time, even the faintest traces of extraordinary effects would have completely disappeared by now.

In other words, theoretically speaking, there shouldn’t be any well-preserved extraordinary items left in this world. This also explains why no one has discovered any magical locations in this world: there are no extraordinary beings here, and without extraordinary beings or intact extraordinary items, even if such places existed, ordinary people wouldn’t be able to perceive them.

This isn’t necessarily a bad thing, though. After all, for this world, researching extraordinary powers is as futile as fishing in a dry river. Therefore, refraining from large-scale research is actually beneficial for the development of the entire world.

As for secret research conducted within organizations like the Golden Dawn or certain laboratories, it doesn’t harm the world at large, so even if there is some extraordinary research, it won’t have much of an impact.

Thus, Liang En’s next plan was to conduct the first experiment involving hyperspace in this world. This is why both he and Joan of Arc appeared so tense while assembling that large door:

Even though Liang En had conducted numerous simulated experiments and theoretically understood what this experiment was about, he still felt a bit uneasy without having performed it in practice.

“It feels different this time,” Joan of Arc remarked as the spatial energy, synthesized from various technical sources by Liang En, gradually took shape. She could distinctly sense the difference between this assembly and the previous trial assembly.

For instance, the previous assembly was merely a mechanical process, like building something with blocks. But now, as the space-time door gradually took shape, Joan of Arc could feel a special power slowly forming in her hands.

“It’s supposed to feel different,” Liang En said, looking at the door that was about to be completed. “After all, this device is designed specifically for this weak point in space. Previously, we didn’t meet the conditions necessary to activate it.”

“But now that we’ve reached this spatial weak point, the device I created naturally responds under the right conditions. If it didn’t, then we’d truly be in trouble.”

As the entire framework was constructed, Liang En began placing gems on each node. The more gems he placed, the brighter the door’s glow became.

When the final gem was placed in the central recess of the door frame, the entire door suddenly emitted an energy surge that only extraordinary beings could sense.

Then, all the light converged, forming one rune after another within the space enclosed by the door frame, as if they were trying to assemble something.

“These runes are actually in Earth’s language!” After adjusting to the sudden brightness, Joan of Arc looked at the door and was surprised to find that she recognized the symbols.

“I thought you’d use characters from other worlds. After all, there’s no extraordinary power in our world, so theoretically, these extraordinary runes shouldn’t exist. How did you do it?”

“It’s mainly because my extraordinary power comes from the information in this world—extraordinary conversion.” Now that the space-time door had stabilized according to its design, Liang En relaxed and began answering Joan of Arc’s questions.

“So even the runes, which are vessels of power, were recreated by me after understanding their principles. That’s why the runes you see are in Earth’s language.”

For Liang En, as the only extraordinary being in this world, he indeed had a desire to find a path forward, but he didn’t want his homeland to suffer any damage. Therefore, when he found information on how to create a space-time door, he insisted that if he couldn’t fully comprehend and master the technique, he would abandon it.

Of course, there was another reason for Liang En’s caution: he believed that other extraordinary worlds might not necessarily have what he needed.

To give a simple example, knowledge involving space and dimensions is complex in any world, whether that world’s mainstream power is extraordinary or technological.

However, Liang En, using his extraordinary power, had managed to decipher the most important parts of it in a short time and even modified the original design. This was clearly unusual.

Moreover, existing evidence suggests that after entering Earth, those extraordinary beings not only couldn’t use their powers, but they also had to endure the extraction effect of this non-extraordinary world on their bodies.

Yet Liang En had never felt that extraction, nor had he experienced the suffocating sensation mentioned in the records. This suggests that the legacy he inherited is likely of a higher caliber than those of the visitors from other worlds.

As a result of these two factors, Liang En wasn’t in a rush to gain extraordinary powers, which is why he only began actual operations after thoroughly securing the space-time door.

In hindsight, his caution was well-founded. At least from the way the space-time door was functioning now, it was operating very smoothly—much more so than the initial design had anticipated.

At least in the records, it was mentioned multiple times that during the startup phase, the energy fluctuations would be intense to the point that the space-time door itself might even be damaged. But now, everything seemed perfectly normal.

Liang En analyzed that this was likely because he had more extraordinary power in this world, along with an abundance of top-quality extraordinary materials to construct this door.

Additionally, Liang En’s improvements from a higher perspective were another important reason. At the very least, these improvements had significantly stabilized the door’s operation.

As a result of these improvements, the light within the door frame became increasingly stable until it finally fixed itself completely within the frame.

“How are things looking now? Did we succeed?” Joan of Arc turned to Liang En, asking as she observed the door gradually stabilizing.

“We probably succeeded.” Liang En placed a hand on a red gem at the edge of the door, closed his eyes to sense it for a moment, and then replied, “To be precise, we’ve only succeeded halfway.”

Liang En wasn’t being modest. The current situation only proved that this device could indeed open a space-time door, but whether it could transport someone to another world was another matter entirely.
