It's 3 a.m.
Even if the Harbingers pulled in are doing their utmost, it's challenging to save everyone.
Lu Yan, emanating a dark aura, passed by the X City school. At the school gate, several students in uniforms lay silently on the ground.
Surrounding them, the butchers were like hyenas, greedily feasting, their eyes gleaming with avarice.
But not all the Pollutants were partaking in the feast.
There was one Pollutant wearing a white shirt and suit pants, futilely trying to pull the butchers off the ground.
A monitoring badge hung from his chest. His eyes protruded from their sockets, elongated like snails.
[This Pollutant has awakened Clairvoyance. He used to be an administrative staff member at the slaughterhouse. Before becoming a Pollutant, he was a teacher at this school.]
Even though transformed into a Pollutant, Snail's combat abilities weren't formidable.
Snail, pushed aside by the burly butchers, fell to the ground. Yet, seemingly impervious to pain, he repeatedly rose, pulling the butchers away from the students.
A butcher with a dog's head cursed, "Mind your own business, or you'll be our next meal!"
With sharp teeth bared, he snarled viciously.
Snail remained indifferent. An arrogant young butcher, infuriated, grabbed its neck and shoved its head into the gap of the school's iron gate.
Struggling in mid-air, Snail looked rather comical.
The surrounding butchers burst into laughter, their jovial echoes resonating through the desolate street.
These Pollutants, though not perfect in evolution, evidently appeared more advanced than those outside.
The rabbit butcher in Lu Yan's pocket peeked its head out and whispered, "Mom, I'm hungry."
Lu Yan pressed down on the fuzzy rabbit's head, pushing it back. "Bear with it."
"Mommy, hmm, hmm!"
For the first time, the rabbit butcher didn't heed Lu Yan's words. With its scissors in hand, it leaped out of Lu Yan's pocket.
The rabbit doll free-fell, landing on the ground, tumbling a few times. Dusting off the dirt, it hopped forward with its short legs.
Though slow in pace due to its short legs, it possessed remarkable agility. In an instant, it was several meters away.
[System: It's Li Ping. She was pulled into the Otherworld a few hours ago.]
A red dot illuminated on the map, marking the rabbit butcher's location.
Lu Yan wasn't fond of unexpected disruptions.
[If you don't go, they'll die.]
So, after a moment of contemplation, Lu Yan followed the direction the rabbit doll had taken.

Li Ping pushed the last person into the basement.
In her hand was a gun from the Fifth Research Institute, capable of granting ordinary people the ability to contend with low-level Pollutants.
All staff at the Disease Prevention and Control Center underwent firearm training as part of their job induction. Among the compulsory courses was firearms usage.
The instructor who taught her marksmanship explained, "When there aren't enough Harbingers around, in times of danger, we can step up."
Li Ping hadn't awakened any talents, but her marksmanship was exceptional. Along the way, she dealt with several low-level butchers with her gun.
Many sleepless nights, Li Ping would rise and go to the shooting range alone.
For no particular reason. Li Ping just felt that if she had her current abilities 17 years ago, perhaps she wouldn't have watched helplessly as her child was taken away by a teddy bear.
This was the underground warehouse of the mall, used for storing goods. It not only had heavy iron doors but also contained food inside.
In the distance, heavy footsteps could be heard. Along with the sound of axes striking the walls.
That was the Goat Butcher loitering nearby.
A staff member, clutching a child, looked panicked. "Professor Li, aren't you coming in?"
"You all stay here." Li Ping closed the door while whispering, "I'll lead that Pollutant away."
As a staff member of the Disease Prevention and Control Center, Li Ping understood Pollutants far better than these ordinary people.
The iron door couldn't stop the Goat Butcher; something was needed to divert its attention. These butchers weren't highly intelligent. Once lured away, they probably wouldn't return.
A man's hand emerged from the gap. "Professor, let me go."
He was also a staff member of the Disease Prevention and Control Center.
Li Ping glanced at the child in his arms. "I'll go. I have no parents, no spouse, no children."
With that, she closed the last gap in the warehouse door.
