Chapter 17: The Seven Streams - Part 2

"The distant battle continued raging on.

Tang Xunan’s body had completely transformed into that of a dragon—his slender hands now dragon claws, with dark wings sprouting from his back.

His deformed hands could no longer grasp the yellow dust; Tang Xunan had to rely on sheer strength to tear and bite.

Covered in a layer of deep red flames, the air around him twisted from the intense heat. Amidst the gaps in his scales, golden blood oozed out, quickly parched by the heat.

Lu Jiahe's arm was severed, and within the layers of charred flesh, where bones should have been, emerged continuously growing, rosy flesh buds. The rate of his body's disintegration far surpassed his ability to regenerate.

The final showdown was gruesome. It resembled two monsters tearing into each other, leaving a landscape littered with limb fragments, dragon scales, and golden-hued blood.

Yet, ultimately, Tang Xunan gained the upper hand, his dragon claw clutching Lu Jiahe's neck.

This wasn’t the first time Tang Xunan had severed Lu Jiahe's head. This charcoal-like figure seemed to possess limitless regeneration. Even if shattered entirely, as long as a fragment of flesh remained, he would resiliently reform. After all, charcoal was abundant, hardly valuable.

However, Tang Xunan understood—this would be the last time.

Just as Lu Jiahe's limbs were severed, his remaining strength was insufficient for further regeneration.

The flames around had gradually subsided, leaving behind mere flickers, akin to candlelight, struggling to persist.

Warnings blared in Tang Xunan's earpiece: 'Degeneration level has reached 997. Cease talent usage immediately, adhere to medical advice, take medication on time! Degeneration...'

Fed up, Tang Xunan cut off the earpiece.

His hand gradually reverted to its human form, grasping the yellow dust. Drawing his long blade, an icy chill emanated.

But at that moment, a hand seized the blade.

It was Lu Yan's hand, yet not entirely Lu Yan's.

Even after reinforcement, his palm instantly displayed a deep gash, enough to cause pain to Wang Yu; she recoiled into Lu Yan's heart.

Tang Xunan's golden eyes brimmed with hostility as he roared, 'Get lost!'

But his sister didn’t heed him, firmly standing in front of Tang Xunan.

Struggling to rise, Lu Jiahe embraced his sister.

Tang Xunan's blade was raised, almost ready to strike.

This world seemed to crumble like a glitching game, collapsing piece by piece.

The first to be devoured by the black hole was Tang Xunan, along with the ground beneath his feet.

Speaking rapidly, Wang Yu faced the almost extinguished Lu Jiahe, 'I've never blamed you.'

'My temperament is bad; I dislike many people, including you. But I know you've never wronged me.'

'My parents were often disappointed in me because I wasn't a boy. It's not your fault. I blamed you only because you're the only one who wouldn't retaliate—I vented my frustration on you.'

Humans are rarely noble creatures. Most fall somewhere in between, neither entirely good nor entirely bad.

'You've done enough for me; I'm tired.'

'You should understand; I'm already gone. Wake up, then go live your own life.'

'Brother.'

Tears streamed from Lu Jiahe's face, devoid of any facial features.

His voice rasped, 'I wanted... to save you... I'm sorry.'

Since childhood, Lu Jiahe had been labeled as a jinx, and eventually accepted the notion that 'those close to him would suffer.' But he yearned for a family.

Without him, perhaps his foster parents and sister could have lived, could have had a peaceful existence in a world without him.

His sister didn’t respond but started evaporating like dewdrops.

Lu Jiahe appeared panicked, attempting to grasp her, only clutching a handful of sand.

The dream collapsed.

His expression turned bewildered; skin and hair regrew, yet his gaze was vacant.

It was now night, and behind Lu Jiahe was a wall.

That wall came crashing down.

There would never again be a wall of resentment in the world."

Lu Jiahe's mind was in turmoil, feeling like he should remember something, yet everything was a blank slate. Countless cycles had blurred all his past memories.

He didn't know who he was.

He didn't know where to go.

Standing alone, he was unaware of how many were watching him through satellite surveillance, sending shivers down their spines.

After a long while, he opened his mouth and slowly uttered two words, "…sister."

But who was his sister?

His figure vanished from the spot.

Late at night, the highest-level alarm sounded at the Pollution Prevention and Control Center in City M.

"Instant pollution values exceeding ten thousand detected in the central urban area of City M. The origin of the pollution is unknown. Satellite images have captured relevant visuals for analysis."

"New S-class pollutant discovered, ability unknown. Codenamed... temporarily none. Number 11."

"Data has been encrypted."

Abroad.

Tang Xunan abruptly opened his eyes, a lingering hint of killing intent in his golden gaze.

Teammates waiting beside him became instantly tense.

"Tang Team! Take a deep breath!! You're the top!"

"This is medicine, this is medicine! Tang Team, stay calm! Just drink this medicine!"

Tang Xunan's gaze wandered over familiar faces. He took the straw and the special medicine.

The degree of mutation on the monitor gradually decreased, his dragon wings retracting. The people around him finally breathed a sigh of relief.

Tang Xunan looked a bit older than in his dreams, certainly not like a college student anymore, his gaze sharper.

No wonder his teammates were so nervous.

The first team of the Special Operations Department, led by Tang Xunan, had no vice-captain.

Thirteen years ago.

In a state of rage, Tang Xunan, after dealing with the pollutants, couldn't control himself and bit the only surviving teammate to death.

Rescue personnel, arriving almost thinking Tang Xunan's mutation had exceeded 100, found blood everywhere. He clutched the Tang knife, silently guarding the corpse of his subordinate.

Tang Xunan requested euthanasia, but headquarters did not agree. Instead, they sent him a special mask, resembling a muzzle for a fierce dog.

He drank medicine through a straw, saying, "Mission failed. I didn't resolve the source of pollution."

"But the Wall of Resentment is clearly gone?" the teammate questioned, puzzled.

Tang Xunan lowered his gaze and replied, "It just turned from a wall into a person. Let's go back to our country."
