The Invasion Day - Chapter 66

When it came to supernatural abilities, something still mysterious and unknown, Captain Zou believed it even if he had his doubts before. Immediately, he instructed the soldiers to quickly notify this information to the other squads and then sent people to the ammunition supply depot to bring in more ammunition.

The dense network of fire created by the heavy machine guns' spewing tongues of fire became even more intense. Even the resting soldiers grabbed grenades and headed down to the low walls. The continuous sounds of gunfire and artillery resounded, bewildering those in the nearby defense area.

It was almost dusk and the ceasefire was near. Why was it getting lively again?

However, before they could ponder further, a piercing scream tore through the sky.

"Ah—" An esper was caught off guard as a level two aberrant climbed onto him while a level one aberrant pounced, fiercely slamming them down!

Before their companions could come to the rescue, level two aberrants, one after another, leaped up as swiftly as rockets.

"Pluff!" A straw pierced unexpectedly into the esper's head, and immediately, the person's eyes widened as they died suddenly.

"Damn it!!!" The defending soldiers on the high wall glared angrily, raising rifles equipped with bayonets, stabbing at the aberrations leaping up below.

With a crisp sound of "crack," the long tentacle coiled around the barrel of the semi-automatic rifle. A great force pulled the soldier forward, meeting them with the aberrant's suction tube that popped out from the moving mouthpiece!

Scenes of this counterattack played out everywhere, screams echoing one after another.

Captain Zou roared, "Hold the line! Fire! Fire!!!"

At that moment, from within the city of Pei behind them, there suddenly arose a more harrowing alarm than in the morning.

Captain Zou relaxed a bit, shouting loudly, "Hold on! Reinforcements will arrive soon!"

The entire city of Pei was in turmoil. Apart from a staged event once, it was the first time this kind of alarm had rung out. Men, women, the infirm, regular people, mutants, and espers, everyone had to head to the walls and join the fight.

In the blink of an eye, Pei turned into a war machine.

Tang Xuhai gripped the hilt of the enormous sword with both hands, his sturdy waist twisting as he fiercely swept through, cutting off the waist of a level two aberrant that lunged towards him.

Zhou Weihua and his companions were in a sorry state. While the previous battle was arduous, most of it involved level one cannon fodder. This time, however, they were all facing level two aberrations.

As they struggled to cope with the increasing difficulty, sharp sounds of "pew pew pew!!!" and something grazed their bodies, piercing into the aberrants.

The ferocious aberrant before them stiffened, then collapsed.

Zhou Weihua took a closer look. There was a gaping hole in the aberrant's chest, a burnt smell wafting through the air.

"Don't just stand there!" Fu Shiwu shouted sternly, "Keep fighting, I'll assist you!"

"Oh... okay!" Zhou Weihua's heart pounded, immediately focusing on the increasingly dark area beyond the city wall.

Among the aberrants below, there were countless level two aberrants mixed in. They had to be extremely cautious, dealing with the more agile and difficult-to-defend-against attacks of the level two aberrants.

Fu Shiwu's gaze sharpened as he stared below. Slightly tilting his hands, his dual pistols emitted "pew pew" sounds, energy projectiles tearing through the air and spinning towards their targets.

His wrist tingled, his shoulder ached. Sweat beaded on his forehead. The recoil of the energy guns was much stronger than that of regular pistols. While he could handle the recoil of regular pistols well, these energy pistols were a challenge.

At this rate, he'd lose accuracy quickly.

Fu Shiwu made a firm decision, fully extending his perception without aiming to look. The energy bullets inside the pistol shot randomly without any pattern. He had to find another way.

In the three-dimensional image, the trajectory of the bullets quickly appeared before him. Fu Shiwu was no longer aiming based on the pistol but rather by tracking the trajectory of the shots.

His eyes lit up. Excellent, it could work!

Gritting his teeth, Fu Shiwu took two steps forward, standing at the forefront, hands spread, the direction of the gun slightly tilting, his eyes coldly focused ahead.

"Pew! Pew! Pew!..." The barrel of the energy gun flashed blue, bursting into bright sparks.

The energy projectiles traced eerie paths, resembling acrobatic monkeys. After crisscrossing in erratic routes, each one fiercely hit the rising aberrants, knocking them down and falling among the other aberrants below.

This sudden decrease in F22 pressure immediately eased. Tang Xuhai took a breath, wiped off his sweat, looked up at the cold figure standing above, and curled his lips in a smirk.

Before everyone could relax and marvel at Fu Shiwu's violent methods, he pursed his lips, his expression unchanging as he lowered one of the handguns, saying, "Feels a bit hot..."

"Damn!" Tang Xuhai rolled his eyes.

"There are still many level two aberrants..." Fu Shiwu shot toward the aberrants with one hand while swinging the other gun, hoping to cool it down quickly.

In his unsteady hands due to the shaking, the muzzle of the gun spewed blue energy bullets, tracing chaotic paths, accurately hitting the aberrants' chests one by one.

"So awesome..." Shao Le's eyes widened, witnessing such an amazing shooting technique for the first time.

This wasn't just a skilled shooter; this was a rhythm of godlike gun mastery!

"Don't daydream!" Tang Xuhai kicked him. Although he felt proud of Fu Shiwu, it wasn't the time to leisurely admire it.

"Ah! Ah! Ah!" Suddenly, a scream sounded nearby. Before Fu Shiwu could react, an alien pounced on a soldier who was shooting beside him.

Fu Shiwu's mind went blank. Without thinking, he turned the muzzle and "Pew, pew!" shot and killed the alien.

But it was too late. The soldier was thrown by the alien, his brains splattered all over.

"F23 has fallen!"

Captain Zou's blurred shout came. Aliens kept attacking from the sides and the front.

Fu Shiwu had to continue using his increasingly heated gun and added another, slightly cooled one, to the fight.

The high spotlights on the wall lit up, making it seem like daylight. The aliens' piercing screams intensified the despair.

Fu Shiwu had to defend against the aliens attacking from F23 while Tang Xuhai's group dealt with the frontal assault.

"Pay attention to F21's situation, it might fall at any moment!" Tang Xuhai shouted to the people around.

Then he turned to Zhen Zi, saying, "Don't attack the aliens alone; use wide-range sound waves. Just make the aliens pause!"

Zhen Zi tensed her small face, "Got it!"

She opened her mouth, took a deep breath, and silently emitted sound waves, visibly slowing the aliens' movements.

Zhou Weihua, seeing this, unleashed electric arcs from his hands, striking the aliens with crackling thunder.

Slight adjustments made them more composed, at least not as nervous and frantic as before.

After fighting all day with just a little water at noon and continuously using sonic abilities, Miao Jia's throat started itching.

During a breathing break, she couldn't help but cough. Unfortunately, due to this disruption, other ability users accustomed to the rhythm failed to adjust their attacks in time.

Seeing the situation worsening, Fu Shiwu quickly killed the alien in his area and then turned to knock down the one leaping towards Miao Jia.

An overlooked alien charged toward Wen Zhaoming. Although Fu Shiwu shot it in time, it crashed into a box under Wen Zhaoming's wheelchair with enough force. Despite Wen Zhaoming's effort to stand using his prosthetic limbs, his movement lagged.

The leaping alien, excited, brandished its hooked tentacle, aiming to ensnare Wen Zhaoming.

"Zhao Ming!" Fu Shiwu jumped down, throwing away his gun and reaching out to pull him.

Although Fu Shiwu pulled Wen Zhaoming away in time, he himself got grazed by the alien's tentacle.

He felt a sharp pain as something tugged at the side of his arm.

"Shiwu!" Tang Xuhai rushed over, knocking him down as the alien's suction cup passed over them.

Wen Zhaoming staggered backward until he leaned against the high wall, watching as Fu Shiwu's arm was scraped off by the alien's hooked tentacle, anger filling him.

"Boom!" A muffled explosion erupted, and a fireball expanded.

"Squeal!" The alien screamed, flesh and blood splattering as it flew backward.

Wen Zhaoming's mind went blank; he seemed unaware of his actions.

Tang Xuhai looked at him in astonishment. Meanwhile, Fu Shiwu, under him, began coughing.

Tang Xuhai quickly got up, pulling Fu Shiwu. At that moment, they couldn't care about the wounds; an alien from the adjacent area dashed through the intense fire and lunged at them.

Tang Xuhai's massive sword instantly split into two, forming dual blades. With a deep roar, he swung his arms at the alien.

Fu Shiwu coughed and blinked, asking Wen Zhaoming, "How did you just do that? Can you keep going?"

Wen Zhaoming regained his composure and said determinedly, "I can!"

Having experienced the power of explosions multiple times, he understood the principle, but he had never imagined he could produce such an effect with his ability.

The intense battle felt like hours to them, but it had only been a short fifteen minutes.

Behind them came noisy sounds, and the first batch of reinforcements climbed the city wall.

After a day of exhaustion and intense fighting, Zhou Weihua's group finally relaxed.

However, their relief didn't last long.

Although these newcomers also had abilities, their combat experience was too limited compared to them; they were basically cannon fodder.

They were simply struggling for life against the aliens.

Zhou Weihua's group wore grim expressions; they had to continue fighting, unable to watch these people perish needlessly.

Captain Zou, panting heavily, said, "Don't worry, these are the residents closest to us. The ability users from the Eastern District will arrive soon."

Those who hadn't fought yet were members of the Guild and adventure teams; they were much stronger than the cannon fodder.

Tang Xuhai said with a dark expression, "This won't work. There are too many second-level aliens, and not enough people to fill the gaps."

Captain Zou, with a grim face, looked at him, "Do you have a plan?"

Tang Xuhai licked his lips, showing a fierce expression, "The only way is to take down their leader, the third-level alien! All these aliens are being directed by the third-level one."

Shao Le, who was nearby, chimed in, "Yes! Back in Pingnan, we lured the third-level alien into the prison and killed it. That's how we dispersed those aliens."

Captain Zou pondered heavily.

Fu Shiwu's group didn't know, but Captain Zou understood that this alien attack on the city wouldn't be easily resolved. It was because the capital barely repelled the aliens thanks to planes and cannons, but they couldn't locate the commander hidden among the aliens.

Although the third-level alien stood out, finding it among hundreds of thousands of seemingly identical aliens was practically a fairy tale for them.
