The lips of Fu Shiwu moved slightly, and with considerable effort, he managed to say, "The bombs have been removed. Even if they're detonated again, no one will die. Stay calm here until everything's over."
However, the definitions of what constituted "everything being over" clearly differed between both sides. While he meant the end of the alien invasion, these people mistakenly believed Fu Shiwu was a resistor trying to save them.
Fu Shiwu turned away, walking toward the designated area with his companions.
Behind them, those confined within the enclosure looked on with hope in their eyes.
Everyone was recuperating; Fu Shiwu rested with his eyes closed, leaning on Tang Xuhai's shoulder. Tang strongly urged him to take a short nap.
Throughout the day, Fu Shiwu had been using his abilities continuously, feeling dizzy and fatigued. If it weren't for Tang Xuhai's awareness of the situation, no one would have known the deep fatigue he was experiencing, as he seemed unfazed.
Fu Shiwu had only dozed off briefly and woke up restless.
"Why did you sleep for such a short while?" Tang Xuhai, displeased, looked at him. "That's not enough."
Saying this, he reached to tap Fu Shiwu's head.
Fu Shiwu dodged, his arm swaying, accidentally brushing against Tang's leg.
Tang Xuhai still wore the metallic armor; observing its gleaming reflection, Fu Shiwu touched its hard surface, asking, "How did you manage this?"
Tang Xuhai lifted his foot, the joints emitting a faint scraping sound, proudly saying, "Just a sudden inspiration. I refuse to be a joke for that scum, Shi Zheng."
Fu Shiwu tapped it, producing a clear sound. "Despite the appearance, it's actually quite thin, just for modesty," Tang Xuhai said, unusually embarrassed.
Fu Shiwu looked at him thoughtfully, while Tang Xuhai looked back puzzled.
"If you had enough material, you could create full-body armor. It would effectively protect you," Fu Shiwu earnestly suggested. "Through today's battles with these extraordinary beings, many conventional ideas seem too conservative and outdated, making us appear overly passive."
Tang Xuhai touched his chin, saying, "Armored suits? The Digital Informationized Forces have that kind of equipment, but not in large quantities. You're right, in today's world, there's no control. Previously confidential equipment can now be brought out."
"I didn't mean that," Fu Shiwu waved his hand, then explained, "I meant your own metallic ability. It can not only generate armor but even form spikes, blades in certain areas."
Fu Shiwu held up Tang Xuhai's fist, saying, "For instance, you could create spikes on your fists." He touched Tang Xuhai's elbow, "Here, a blade could be designed upside-down. So when you attack with your elbow, you can directly wound the enemy."
Tang Xuhai's eyes brightened as Fu Shiwu's examples gave him a concrete concept. He started envisioning various metallic components based on combat techniques: a horn on the shoulder, a reversed blade on the heel...
The brainstorming grew too immense; the imagined appearance became as heavily bladed as an extinct spinosaurus.
"Ahem!" Tang Xuhai caught his racing thoughts and, regaining composure, patted Fu Shiwu's dazed head.
"What?" Fu Shiwu looked at him, confused.
"I'm saying... you usually seem quite simple-minded. How did you come up with such a brutal idea?" Tang Xuhai looked at him with a complex expression.
"Brutal?" Fu Shiwu blushed. "I didn't really think of anything; I just saw your steel pants and one thing led to another..."
Tang Xuhai couldn't fathom how Fu Shiwu's mind worked, perplexed as he rubbed his head, prompting Fu Shiwu to swat his hand away.
"Hey, what's your name?" Miao Jia asked the soundwave girl quietly.
The girl's face stiffened momentarily. Miao Jia, curious, looked at her, and she had to take a deep breath before casually stating, "My surname is Zhen, Zhen Huan's Zhen; the characters are Mu Xin, Zi."
"Oh," Miao Jia reacted slowly. "Zhen... Zi?"
Seeing the girl nod stiffly, Miao Jia echoed, "Zhen Zi... Zhenzi?!"
He widened his eyes in astonishment, and the soundwave girl, Zhen Zi, collapsed like a deflated balloon.
"Hahaha!" Miao Jia burst into fits of laughter, rolling on the ground. The tension that had weighed heavily on him finally eased a bit.
Zhen Zi looked exasperated at Miao Jia, who had attracted curious glances. "What's so funny!"
Miao Jia wiped his eyes, "Who did you upset when they named you?!"
"Get lost!" Zhen Zi scolded in embarrassment. "My dad's surname is Zhen, and my mom's is a rare one, Zi! That's why my name is Zhen Zi. Who knew I'd end up sharing a name with that famous female ghost later!"
Her parents, oblivious until after 2000 when Sadako became a big name in the film industry, couldn't exactly change their daughter's name after she had learned to write it after years of effort.
Moreover, her mom wasn't willing, so Zhen Zi's dad just shrugged it off, never considering how his daughter would feel about her name when she grew up.
Zhen Zi, studying music at the provincial university, specialized in opera. Her encounter with the apocalypse happened during a summer trip with classmates. They got isolated, and later, she developed a fever.
After recovering, while attempting to return home with her friends, they encountered attacks by the aliens. It was then that Zhen Zi manifested her soundwave ability for the first time.
Among her friends, she was the only one with awakened abilities; the rest at most had undergone some mutations.
Despite jealousy and envy from both male and female classmates, Zhen Zi didn't mind; she continued protecting them until they fell into the clutches of Shi Zheng.
The unmutated friends were used as bait while the mutated ones became cannon fodder. Zhen Zi relentlessly worked for Shi Zheng, using her abilities to secure the safety of her last remaining friend.
However, that friend had been violated in her absence, causing immense pain and regret for Zhen Zi.
It was her dying friend who tearfully smiled and said, "It's my fault... Maybe you could've escaped yourself... You're not a savior, can't save everyone, take care of yourself, Zhen Zhen..."
Even before her friend's last breath, Zhen Zi vowed vengeance against Shi Zheng and his henchmen and started resisting, leading to her confinement due to her unique abilities.
Zhen Zi would never forget her friend's final moments and wouldn't give up seeking retribution for her.
Thus, she was determined to kill Shi Zheng.
After a short rest, Fu Shiwu resumed using his perception ability to monitor Shi Zheng's movements.
He didn't need widespread attention now, only focusing on Shi Zheng.
Once he began moving, it signaled action; they needed to move quickly.
At that time, his subordinates were ordered to withdraw, leaving only a small number to stay with Shi Zheng to detonate the bombs.
Fu Shiwu's eyebrows twitched, his eyes slowly opening, immediately noticed by Tang Xuhai who had been watching his face.
"They can't hold it anymore," Fu Shiwu blinked, then stood up.
Others stood as they saw him rise.
"He's heading east," Fu Shiwu glanced and said, "East?"
"There's a door there, reinforced by an earth-elemental ability user," Miao Jia remembered, "But after that."
"Yeah, Shi Zheng separated from his men," Fu Shiwu grabbed Tang Xuhai's wrist. "Let's move!"
Tang Xuhai nodded. At this point, Fu Shiwu's attention was solely on Shi Zheng, somewhat neglecting the actual situation, so Tang Xuhai led Fu Shiwu away directly.
In Fu Shiwu's perception, Shi Zheng and a few others were in a retreat, causing a mass retreat of the personnel. This influx of high-level aliens rushed into the prison like a tide, heading swiftly towards the grand playground.
"Are they intentionally luring them over there?" Horn Ting questioned suspiciously.
"Keep quiet," Wang Dan whispered.
Several powerful ability users among them displayed immense abilities with their every move, attracting the aliens' attention, who raced past the hiding spot of Fu Shiwu and the others.
"Where's Shi Zheng?" Anxious, Zhen Zi whispered.
"The aliens only target those who pose a serious threat to them. If Shi Zheng doesn't personally engage, he won't attract other alien's attention," Tang Xuhai whispered back.
"Right, so he's not coming... there's an unusual alien coming, stay silent!" Fu Shiwu suddenly urged urgently.
At that moment, a white figure darted past. Tang Xuhai, with keen eyesight, could see the moving object clearly and sucked in a breath.
This alien, slimmer than the evolved ones but taller and paler, had a prominent braincase atop its head, indicating higher intelligence.
However, that braincase made it look bizarre, like a giant-headed doll!
