Chapter 1008: Approaching

Under normal circumstances, travelers like Liang En and his companions, when encountering impassable weather conditions, would choose to set up camp and quietly wait for the bad weather to pass. This is, of course, a very normal and reasonable approach, considering that the forces of nature are often beyond human control, and sometimes taking a step back is not a bad idea.

However, for Liang En and his companions, the situation took a different turn. Considering that this bad weather wouldn't clear up anytime soon, Liang En decided to take Jeanne back home temporarily, as if they were saving a game midway through.

Undoubtedly, this approach was somewhat like cheating, but it was very effective—at least, resting in a warm bed at home was far better than sitting in the freezing cold, enduring the wind.

The next day, once they confirmed the weather had cleared up, they resumed their journey. By this time, they had already entered the mountainous area, making it unlikely to encounter anyone else. Therefore, they set out in broad daylight.

Traveling during the day was obviously much easier than at night, so Liang En and his companions reached the vicinity of their destination in about sixty percent of the time they had planned for nighttime travel.

Their destination was a small basin nestled within the mountains, with a lake in the center that had formed due to glacial erosion. However, due to the recent cold weather, the lake's surface had completely frozen over, looking like a mirror of ice.

"Are you sure that the spatial weak point is in this place?" Jeanne asked, looking at the completely frozen glacial lake in the distance. "Why don't I feel any difference between this place and the surroundings?"

"It's normal that you don't sense anything different. Spatial weak points aren't something that can be understood by humans alone. Even if you possess extraordinary powers, if you're not skilled in this area, it's normal not to sense them," Liang En replied, not at all surprised that Jeanne couldn't detect the spatial weak point. After all, perceiving such a thing required a particular talent, and both Liang En and Jeanne lacked it.

This was why Liang En had spent considerable time and effort making a spatial detector before they set off. It would be an indispensable device in their subsequent search.

Upon reaching the lakeshore, Liang En took out his detector and began scanning. As he infused it with extraordinary power, the gemstones embedded in the compass-like device began emitting lights of various colors.

Soon, the previously neon-like lights stabilized, and a narrow sector among the ring of gemstones emitted a steady yellow glow.

"15 degrees north-northeast, 500-600 meters away—" Liang En quickly reported the exact distance of the destination after seeing the gemstone light up on the tracker.

This detector had been acquired alongside the process for making the space gate and was considered an important auxiliary device. Apparently, the designer had anticipated the previous issues, which is why they left this device behind.

Now, it seemed that the location Liang En and his companions had chosen was indeed correct. As soon as the detector was activated, it locked onto the spatial weak point and provided detailed data.

Following the detector's guidance, the two of them crossed the frozen lake and arrived on the other side, then proceeded into a newly formed mountain valley.

"It's amazing. This valley wasn't here in the satellite photos taken three days ago," Jeanne said with a face full of wonder as she looked at the black rocks on both sides and the white snow above.

"So I thought we would have to go around from the other side or teleport inside using your raven's location. I never imagined we'd be able to walk right in like this."

"We have the strong wind to thank for that," Liang En said as he observed the valley. "Because of the wind, much of the snow that was blocking this pass was blown away, allowing us to walk through so easily."

"But we need to move quickly. The terrain here makes the valley prone to strong winds and accumulating snow, so we'd better finish our exploration before the next storm arrives."

Though both Liang En and Jeanne had mastered extraordinary powers and their bodies had been significantly strengthened, they were still vulnerable under the might of nature. Thus, it was wise to avoid such harsh weather if possible.

Advancing through the snow was not an easy task, especially since the strong wind had blown away much of the snow, leaving behind frozen surfaces where rocks and valley floors were still covered in ice.

In places where the snow wasn't very thick, Liang En and Jeanne had to use walking sticks to carefully inch forward, as it was easy to slip on the ice.

Particularly in areas where the ground appeared to be snow-covered, there was no telling whether there was a solid surface or a hidden crevice beneath. Even Jeanne's raven couldn't reveal it, so for safety, they had no choice but to measure the path with their feet.

Fortunately, Liang En and Jeanne's physical abilities were far superior to those of ordinary humans. After more than an hour of walking and crossing a ridge, they finally reached their destination.

"This place doesn't look any different from the surroundings," Jeanne remarked instinctively as she looked at the narrow valley before her. "I thought the landing site of extraterrestrial beings would have some distinctive features."

"No, there is a difference. This place contains residual extraordinary power, though it's very faint," Liang En said with a smile, shaking his head at Jeanne.

As a mage-type extraordinary being, Liang En was more sensitive in this regard and could clearly sense the presence of extraordinary power in this place, although it was faint.

As they continued to walk forward, Jeanne also began to sense the extraordinary power. Although she usually appeared human, she was actually closer to a heroic spirit, so she naturally had an innate sense for such power.

"This place makes me feel a bit uncomfortable," Jeanne frowned as she walked. "It's hard to describe how I feel right now. It won't harm me, but it's not a pleasant sensation."

It was similar to someone who dislikes the smell of stinky tofu passing by a stinky tofu stand—not much harm, but certainly not a pleasant experience.

Fortunately, this issue wasn't severe, so after standing for a minute or two to adapt, Jeanne continued walking with Liang En.

The path ahead was more difficult than expected because they had to climb vertically up an icy cliff to a cave about ten meters above the ground. Fortunately, their physical abilities and skills were sufficient for this task.

As for why they didn't use extraordinary power at this point, the reason was simple: they were close to their target, and they needed to conserve every bit of power to deal with whatever might happen next.

"I think we're here," Liang En said, pausing after a few minutes of strenuous climbing, turning to Jeanne behind him. "Prepare for battle; who knows what we'll encounter in this place."

"No problem," Jeanne said, drawing her sword. But at that moment, Liang En was surprised to see a milky white light appear on the blade of her sword.
