After discussing for a while on how to complete the final step of their attack on the Thule Society, Liang En and Jeanne quickly came up with a plan:
Liang En swiftly used his computer skills to create an untraceable phone call, then activated a voice changer to report suspicious individuals on the street, seemingly about to break car windows to steal something.
As one of the well-known commercial streets in Istanbul, this area naturally received maximum police attention. Less than five minutes after their call, a police car arrived from nearby.
As soon as they saw two officers getting out of the car, Liang En and Jeanne quickly teleported to the second floor of the café they had been in earlier. Liang En then took out a Mauser semi-automatic rifle and fired several shots at the police car.
The gunshots seemed to awaken the entire street. The two officers quickly took cover behind nearby obstacles and began calling for reinforcements.
Seizing the opportunity, Liang En and Jeanne teleported back to the storage room they had been in earlier, hiding the rifle they had just used. They then quietly waited at the corner of the second floor.
As this was a key area, the police response was extremely swift. In less than three minutes, two more police cars and an assault vehicle arrived at both ends of the street. A group of armed officers then surrounded the café.
At this moment, the members of the Thule Society were just starting to react. However, it was too late for them to escape, and they could only hope to get through the situation without incident.
Their reasoning wasn’t wrong. After all, apart from two handguns, there was nothing particularly incriminating in the house, and their handguns were legally owned.
Although possessing firearms, especially handguns, without a permit in the city center is illegal, it is only a minor offense. Resisting arrest violently for such a minor crime would clearly not be worth it.
The elite members of the Thule Society were very familiar with weapons, so they could immediately tell that the shots were fired from a rifle, though they couldn't pinpoint that the shots had come from their second floor. The landlord had soundproofed the third floor to prevent noise from the café below, making the sounds they heard rather muffled.
Because of this, they didn’t go upstairs, knowing the police were fully armed and could shoot at any moment. Rushing downstairs would likely get them injured by mistake.
“Get ready—” Liang En whispered to Jeanne as they heard the door being opened and a group of people rushing in. He gripped the MP40 submachine gun in his hand. “Fire!”
“Bang, bang, bang!” As soon as Liang En finished speaking, both of them pulled the triggers of their guns simultaneously, sending tongues of fire down the staircase.
Earlier, they had seen through a raven’s eyes that the police were all heavily armed with bulletproof shields and vests, so they didn’t worry about accidentally hurting anyone innocent.
Sure enough, the bullets struck the heavy bulletproof shields with a thudding sound, but the 9mm bullets from their weapons couldn’t penetrate the police armor.
However, the gunfire caused a commotion both upstairs and downstairs. Unlike when they were hiding in the private room earlier, this time, Liang En and Jeanne were shooting from the stairwell, so the entire building heard the shots.
“We should go.” Taking advantage of the confusion and lack of response from both upstairs and downstairs, Liang En tossed a weakened version of Greek Fire into the stairwell, then grabbed Jeanne and teleported to a nearby alley.
Using the deserted alley as a transit point, Liang En quickly used his extraordinary powers to return to the construction site, pretending to suddenly develop an interest in stargazing with Jeanne as they headed out together.
This was mainly because the entire site was equipped with extensive surveillance, so leaving some evidence of their presence at this time would be beneficial in some ways.
Things went even smoother than they had imagined. On the way, they ran into several scholars who were staying up late and two patrol teams, greeting them all.
No one found it strange that they were up at two or three in the morning, as scholars often have irregular schedules. Whether working at night and sleeping during the day, or suddenly getting up at two or three in the morning to work, it was not unusual for them, so no one would suspect anything was amiss.
After wandering outside for a while, Liang En and Jeanne returned to their room and began analyzing what might happen next.
“No matter what, the Thule Society won’t be able to pose any significant threat to us in the short term,” Jeanne quickly assessed the situation and reached a simple conclusion.
“But whether we can inflict enough damage on them in the end will depend on luck. After all, this whole operation didn’t harm anyone, and with their connections in Turkey, it shouldn’t be too difficult for them to find a scapegoat and get away with it.”
“You’re right, that’s indeed the case. But at least we’ve ensured that during this critical time, we’ve restrained their actions,” Liang En pointed out the key aspect. “As long as we can prevent them from causing trouble in the near future, and reveal our findings before then, time will be on our side.”
“You’re right, the situation is indeed like that.” Jeanne lightly tapped her fingers on the table as she spoke. “But the problem is that while we can destroy an organization, we can’t destroy every part of it.”
“You know, the Thule Society has inherited the most secretive forces from Nazi Germany after World War II. Once they lose their organization, they might become even more dangerous. After all, they’ve undergone brutal training and possess significant lethality.”
“So, if they lose their organization, they might resort to extreme and savage retaliation, because by that point, they’ll have nothing left to lose, and their attacks could become even more brutal.”
“That’s definitely something we need to be aware of, but it shouldn’t be a major issue,” Liang En nodded solemnly after thinking for a moment. “Their attacks won’t be too deadly without sufficient support, but there is indeed a risk in covert ambushes.”
“So we need to use all our resources to monitor the situation here. That way, we should be able to preemptively control and eliminate any potential threats.”
“If that’s the case, I think it’s acceptable,” Jeanne nodded slightly, then smiled somewhat shyly at Liang En. “Actually, when it comes to matters of your safety, I don’t mind being proactive—”
However, Jeanne didn’t finish her sentence, as Liang En gently embraced her and kissed her on the cheek.
“It’s okay; this little thing doesn’t need you to go against your principles,” Liang En said to Jeanne, whose cheeks were now flushed. “I believe our strength is more than enough to handle these problems, so there’s no need to worry.”
