The enhancement of extraordinary powers cannot be rushed. After all, countless novels, movies, and other media repeatedly emphasize how disastrous it can be if such advancements are not allowed to happen naturally. More importantly, in the current situation where none of the prerequisites are met, forcibly enhancing extraordinary powers is not much different from actively seeking death.
So, after getting off the plane, Liang En temporarily set these thoughts aside and prepared to participate in some important social events happening in London at the end of the year.
These social events were the kind that couldn't be avoided. After all, given their current work, they could actually decline most social engagements without harming relationships. However, the remaining ones were the kind they had to attend.
Fortunately, the remaining events were quite enriching, so participating in them was somewhat valuable and even piqued Liang En’s interest.
The most important of these gatherings was the one held by the Golden Dawn. This gathering not only allowed for the expansion of networks but also provided opportunities to exchange many things of mutual interest.
This year’s gathering was held in a manor in the outskirts of London. It was a three-story Victorian-style building, accompanied by a rather sizeable estate.
Although the estate was not particularly large overall, considering its proximity to central London, the entire estate was obviously not as simple as it appeared.
And indeed, this was the case. This estate was once the residence of a duke, later purchased by the Golden Dawn through certain connections, and transformed into one of the most important bases for the Golden Dawn in London.
The most important agenda of this gathering was to discuss the recent events in Pakistan. After all, once the Thule Society got involved, the entire situation took on a different flavor.
Naturally, the first person to approach Liang En was Professor Jones. He came specifically to thank Liang En for lending a hand during the operation and expressed that they could collaborate more in the future.
Of course, Liang En’s previous actions had not revealed his identity; the professor was simply thanking all the Golden Dawn members who had gone to Pakistan to rescue people.
The additional gratitude towards Liang En was because he had communicated with the military at the camp, eliminating any potential attackers and significantly reducing the losses they might have suffered.
Aside from him, almost all the Golden Dawn members who went to Pakistan to rescue people individually thanked Liang En for helping them avoid a potential attack.
After the initial pleasantries, everyone quickly moved on to discuss the most important topic of the gathering: the recent actions of the Thule Society and the countermeasures needed.
Discussing such a somber issue right before Christmas was indeed a bit inappropriate, but the current situation forced the Golden Dawn to do so.
Over the past decades, although there had been numerous conflicts between the Golden Dawn and the Thule Society, neither side had ever used lethal force against the other’s core members like the Thule Society had recently.
The repeated deadly actions by the Thule Society had caused significant losses for the Golden Dawn. Although they managed to protect their core members, there were still substantial losses in other areas.
More importantly, the Golden Dawn, which has always upheld the principle of walking in the light, was not well-suited to such ruthless tactics.
Although it wasn’t difficult for most Golden Dawn members to hire professionals, there were only a few like Liang En who owned their own security companies.
Given their good relationship with official agencies, the Golden Dawn wouldn't find it too difficult to defend themselves in such situations, but launching a counterattack would be much more challenging.
After all, mobilizing their own people and using outside forces are two entirely different matters. Unfortunately, the Golden Dawn had never focused on this aspect before, so their counterattacks naturally appeared weaker.
The Golden Dawn's discussion started with an introduction to the current situation, followed by small group discussions on possible countermeasures.
“What on earth is the Thule Society thinking?” Liang En curiously asked Professor Jones, who was in his group. “I can't see what they stand to gain from this.”
“Well, I’ve heard some information,” Professor Jones said quietly after glancing around. As a senior professor at a top university, he had access to some information channels that others did not.
“You know that organizations like theirs often have supporters behind them, especially the Thule Society, which has political stains. In fact, because of these stains, many people are more willing to invest in them—after all, such compromised organizations are easier to control than those with stronger independence.”
“But in recent years, the situation in Europe has allowed those who were previously unsuitable to stand in the spotlight to do so, and naturally, they want to distance themselves from certain past associates.”
“Logically, the Thule Society, which specializes in dirty work, should be among the first to be purged. For the Thule Society, the only way to reverse this unfavorable situation is to make some significant discoveries to redeem themselves.”
“And we, the Golden Dawn, have repeatedly interrupted their efforts in this area, even beating them to the punch on several occasions. Therefore, they have held a grudge and hope to stop our actions through some violent means.”
Hearing this, Liang En quickly filled in the gaps in his previous chain of thoughts and roughly guessed why the Thule Society was doing this.
For the Thule Society, they clearly needed to find an important discovery within a short period, and then use that discovery to cleanse their reputation through a series of maneuvers.
As a result, when faced with their old rivals who constantly created obstacles, they naturally resorted to more extreme measures to eliminate the potential impact of the Golden Dawn.
Liang En even believed that the Thule Society's actions in Pakistan were not intended to kill or injure anyone. After all, an organization as large as the Golden Dawn couldn't be dealt with just by eliminating a few people.
Thus, after considering Professor Jones' information, Liang En concluded that the Thule Society’s primary objective in that action was likely to restrict the Golden Dawn's operations in the short term, making it easier for them to carry out their own plans.
In a way, this was an open conspiracy, because even if the Golden Dawn knew what they were doing, they had few countermeasures. The fact that they were outmatched in covert operations was indeed a limiting factor.
So, it seemed that the Thule Society had already achieved their goal. At the very least, the Golden Dawn was now leaning towards pulling back their forces to avoid getting caught, which would give the Thule Society enough room to maneuver.
However, even so, Liang En still felt that they should do everything possible to thwart the Thule Society’s actions. After all, the Thule Society was an enemy of both the Golden Dawn and himself. Moreover, the Golden Dawn’s greatest advantage had always been their ability to operate openly.
Therefore, if they couldn't stop the Thule Society from redeeming themselves, the future, in an increasingly unfavorable situation, would undoubtedly be even more difficult.
