“What’s happening, Professor?” Harry asked, with Ron, Ginny, and Hermione looking around puzzled, noticing nothing unusual.
“There’s an unexpected visitor, no big deal, I’ll go have a look,” Felix said as he got up and walked towards the orchard outside the tent, Hermione, after a moment of thought, followed him.
The fruit trees shimmered under the brilliant sunset, surrounded by the pleasant rural scenery. Hermione weaved through the crowd at the edge of the tent, catching sight of Felix returning with a stranger girl, chatting as they walked.
“...You’ll treat it as a dream, deal?”
The girl nodded, looking up at the tent’s festivities with timid admiration. Felix pointed at her, and her clothes instantly transformed into a beautiful evening gown.
“Off you go,” Felix encouraged. The girl, excited, stepped into the tent and onto the golden dance floor, looking around. A bottle of champagne and an empty glass appeared in front of her, clinking together. She poured herself a small drink with interest, then looked around the crowd before her eyes lit up and she walked determinedly in one direction.
“She’s... a Muggle?” Hermione asked in surprise.
“She lives in the nearby village, her parents run a flower shop,” Felix explained. “Just a few days ago, Fred and George exchanged a pack of snacks for the flowers used in today’s wedding. This clever girl got curious, watching from the village entrance every day. However, the Weasley home is protected by spells, invisible to ordinary people—but she’s persistent, having watched for several days, accidentally seeing guests coming from the distant hill with a key.”
“Oh.” Hermione looked back at the girl who disappeared behind the phoenix cake, unnoticed among the wedding guests as an outsider to magic. Turning around, she gathered her courage to speak, but Felix cleared his throat, “Um—may I have this dance?”
Surprised, Hermione looked at him.
“Since you put it that way.” She nodded demurely, extending her hand as they made their way to the dance floor.
“By the way, what did you see in your time travels?”
“Why do you ask all of a sudden?”
“Just curious.”
“A cave full of stalactites—”
“Stop, don’t say anymore,” Felix hurriedly interrupted, that was his secret practice spot for the Killing Curse.
...
The lights in Sword Castle were still on at night.
“Ready?” Felix asked, Lupin nodded silently, closing his eyes in preparation for fate’s judgement. Tonks stood by, fingers intertwined tightly.
Felix opened his hands, countless tiny magical scripts danced in mid-air, then returned like homing birds. Before the others could react, they transformed into a silver moonlight, echoing with a haunting howl.
Felix placed his hand on Lupin’s shoulder.
A strange sensation spread through his body instantly, a feeling he was not unfamiliar with, having experienced it every full moon night since he was five. Lupin suddenly opened his eyes, his pupils dilated, darkened. But this time was different; he had just attempted the ‘Reverse Werewolf Transformation’ spell on himself—though he had failed several times before.
Lupin’s head began to deform, his body elongated, and his suit, not changed in time, could not withstand the transformation. He let out a deep howl, revealing sharp teeth—Tonks covered her mouth, stepping closer in concern. But then, Lupin's body reverted, returning to human form, and when he looked up again, his eyes were as sincere and trustworthy as ever.
Tonks rushed over, inspecting Lupin’s hands with great interest, then rolled up his sleeves to check for the brown hairs that had sprouted, sighing in relief when she found none.
“Did it work? Was the magic successful?” she asked, swallowing hard.
“Undoubtedly successful,” Felix assured Lupin and Tonks.
“How long will it last? Can it get through a full moon night?” Tonks’s voice held a hint of unease.
“As long as it’s not forcibly broken, it should be fine,” Felix stated.
Tonks cheered joyfully, Lupin smiled at her gently. “Now let’s see what mother has to say!” she muttered, turning her hair into a dazzling gold.
Lupin remained calm amidst the joy, saying, “This is just the first step. Next is mastering the Werewolf Transformation spell, to become a werewolf even when it's not a full moon. With the foundation laid, I believe I can master this spell in one or two months.”
“Why do that?” Tonks stopped, puzzled, “Why would you want to become a werewolf voluntarily?”
Lupin looked at Felix for explanation. Felix elaborated, “Well, the effect of werewolf venom varies from person to person. If an ordinary person is bitten by a werewolf, the venom could be fatal; but if I were bitten,
it wouldn’t harm me much, just a minor inconvenience...”
“...Dumbledore was the same. Our bodies and magic have undergone peculiar changes, more closely connected. I call it magical creature transformation, a key indicator being that no matter how the body changes, magic perfectly adapts to the current state. This is significantly different from a wizard's Animagus transformation.”
“Werewolf transformation lies between the two—beyond the capabilities of ordinary wizards, hard to control; but not fatal to a wizard.”
“If Remus masters both werewolf transformation and its reversal, he can familiarize himself with the process while conscious, aiding in mastering the subtle changes within his body. This will clear the path to learning advanced human transfiguration, ultimately fixing this state permanently.”
“You could see it as a human Animagus transformation specifically for werewolves.”
“After three steps, the werewolf identity won’t affect him anymore. The only downside is the difficulty of this method, hoping for potion masters to create a potion that completely cures werewolf venom.”
“I asked Belby,” Lupin shook his head, “He spent years developing the werewolf potion, but it barely suppresses the venom, allowing a werewolf to remain sane during transformation. Complete eradication is difficult... I plan to go through the process myself, and if successful, select some qualified werewolves—”
He hesitated, looking at Felix, who shrugged.
“What you do outside work is none of my business. The key to solving the problem is already in your hands.”
