Volume 2 - Chapter 62: He Is Worthy of Your Pride - Part 2
Liangzhou, Western Border.
The sky was overcast with dark clouds, and the ominous signs of a demonic tide were clearly approaching.
Since last night, scouts had already gathered intelligence. About a thousand miles outside the border, figures of demons were gathering, causing Li Xuanli’s body to tense up.
He knew that the demons who had feigned retreat earlier could no longer sit still.
Thinking of the family letter sent by Li Hao, Li Xuanli felt a trace of comfort. After trusting Li Hao’s words, he had not relaxed, constantly sending scouts to survey beyond the border. His caution had proven correct.
At this moment, those demons had transitioned from gathering to marching, and the entire city was under his intelligence network. Preparations for war had already been made in advance.
“Has the eastern border been notified? They’re likely to face a demon invasion as well!”
“Among these demons, I haven’t seen any Demon Kings. It’s possible that they will head that way!”
Li Xuanli said to his deputy general.
“We’ve already informed them.”
The deputy general immediately replied.
...
“What about Tianmen Pass? Have they been alerted? Tell them to be cautious.”
“They’ve already been sent word.”
Li Xuanli nodded slightly, looking at his daughter, Li Wushuang, who was fully armored, and sighed.
“I’ve arranged for a carriage and horses to take you away from here. Yet, you insist on causing trouble. If your mother finds out, she’ll definitely twist my ears when I get back!”
Upon hearing this, Li Wushuang, who had been solemn and tense, couldn’t help but smile slightly.
Although she had left the Divine General Mansion since she was young, she could tell from her brief time back that her parents were deeply in love.
As a child, she felt happy for them.
“Mother wouldn’t do that. She knows about this upcoming battle. If you leave, she’d probably worry that you might lose an ear instead,” Li Wushuang smiled.
Li Xuanli’s eyes flickered, and he nodded lightly. “Your mother must be extremely worried right now.”
Li Wushuang rolled her eyes at him. “Father, the army is about to move. Could you please focus on the current situation?”
Li Xuanli gave her a sidelong glance. “The current situation is that you need to leave quickly and not hold us back here.”
“Li family men don’t retreat on the battlefield. Don’t forget, I’m also a Li!” Li Wushuang said.
However, as she said the final words, she couldn’t help but think of a certain figure, and her face changed slightly.
Li Xuanli’s gaze shifted to the distance, and he whispered, “They’re here!”
Li Wushuang’s eyes sharpened as she activated her divine soul to scan.
She saw the vast demonic tide sweeping toward them, and its size seemed to match the intelligence they had gathered.
Li Xuanli immediately ordered his deputy general to prepare the war horns.
On the city wall, the defense weapons had been readied, and the watchtowers were fully loaded.
Boom!
As the demonic tide entered the ambush array set outside the city, the formation was triggered, and an explosive force burst forth, startling the demons and tearing open several gaps in their ranks.
Li Xuanli’s eyes remained cold and unchanged; this was just the beginning of the battle.
But at that moment, three figures suddenly rushed out from the demonic tide, moving at an incredibly fast speed toward them.
Boom!
With a thunderous sound, the three figures struck in unison. Their fierce power shook the border formation, causing violent impacts.
The divine patterns of the formation flickered and vibrated rapidly.
Li Xuanli’s face changed drastically. Along with him, the many soldiers, including the Immortal Realm generals, all turned pale with shock.
“Demon Kings!”
“It’s the Demon Kings!”
To their surprise, three Demon Kings were hidden among the demonic tide. Previously, they had only detected the presence of several large demons of the Immortal Realm level. Given the size of the invasion, this was already an overwhelming force, yet the existence of three Demon Kings within it was a terrifying revelation!
“Quickly, activate the Xuanzi Battalion’s First Legion to defend the formation!” Li Xuanli shouted urgently.
Li Wushuang’s pupils constricted, her body trembling as she held her breath.
It was the Demon Kings!
She watched as the three Demon Kings floated in the air, relentlessly attacking the formation. Each strike sent a chill down her spine, making her feel as though she could barely breathe.
“Master should be coming, but he’s just one person…” Li Wushuang’s face tightened as she focused on the imposing figures of the Demon Kings.
The night before, when she had detected the demons gathering a thousand miles away, she had urgently sent word to her sect, asking the Elder of the Thousand Machines to come and help.
However, it would take some time for him to arrive.
Even if he did make it in time, could he stop these three Demon Kings?
Boom! Boom! Boom!
The formation trembled as the three Demon Kings attacked with all their might.
Arrows flew out, but when they struck the Demon Kings, they were deflected effortlessly by their physical defenses, unable to cause any damage.
It was as though the arrows were merely being rained upon them, harmless no matter how many hours of downpour.
Li Xuanli immediately ordered that the frontline archers redirect their arrows at the approaching demonic tide, not to waste their efforts on the Demon Kings.
He then drew his sword and signaled to the five Immortal Realm generals to take to the sky.
“Father!”
“Stay safe!”
Li Xuanli shouted sternly, not looking back as he charged forward.
...
...
To the south, Tianmen Pass, Cangya City.
The city was bustling with activity. Street vendors were calling out, and the children of noble families wandered the streets, trying to visit the legendary figure, but were blocked at the gates.
Outside Cangya City, on Longguan Road, a figure was speeding towards them.
It was Li Hao.
Lu Chunsheng had escorted him to the borders of Yongzhou, and from there, he had sped his way back, activating his Myriad Attributes to conceal his figure, finally returning to Tianmen Pass.
Longguan Road, once desolate, was now lined with tea stalls and the occasional passerby. It was a stark contrast to when he had first arrived.
Li Hao approached a tea stall and ordered a cup of hot tea.
Then, he caught the scent of freshly steamed buns and, to his surprise, ordered two baskets, enjoying the delicious treat.
