Chapter 531: Lecture

During the time spent at home, Liang En managed to handle a lot of previously accumulated tasks. However, staying there all day was somewhat frustrating. Just as Liang En was pondering if there was somewhere to go recently, he received a very formal invitation.

This invitation was from University College Cork, essentially inviting him to give a lecture at his alma mater a week later, highlighting his notable achievements.

The content of the lecture was also simple: to talk about his experiences over the past few years, encourage the juniors, boost morale, and inspire everyone to work hard in their studies.

It seems that universities around the world have this habit of inviting celebrities to give motivational speeches to their students.

In fact, Liang En had received many similar invitations before, but most of them were superficial, and the inviting schools were not very prominent, so Liang En usually declined them.

However, this time it was different. University College Cork was quite well-known in Europe, and it was his alma mater. So, he had to make this trip no matter what.

Fortunately, the invitation was from the college he attended, so the lecture could be a bit more professional, filling the time with substantial content.

The next day, Liang En quickly replied, accepting the invitation. He also sent the main content of his lecture for their approval, hoping to ensure mutual satisfaction with the event.

After some consideration, Liang En chose the topic of the discovery and decipherment of Linear B script for his lecture. This topic was valuable from both motivational and purely academic perspectives.

“Dean, alumnus Liang En has accepted our invitation and will be available in a few days to give a lecture,” the manager of the school's mailbox said, holding a copy of the reply to the Dean of the School of Arts, Celtic Studies, and Social Sciences.

“Moreover, alumnus Liang En has sent a brief outline of his lecture content for us to review. He mentioned that he could modify it if it’s not suitable.”

University colleges often invite successful alumni back to give speeches to encourage students, create a learning atmosphere, share experiences, and enhance the university's reputation.

However, many famous alumni are often too busy to accept such invitations. The Dean only extended this invitation as a gesture, not expecting Liang En to actually come. It was surprising that Liang En accepted and was so cooperative.

“These contents are very good,” said the Dean of the School of Social Sciences, satisfied after reviewing Liang En’s lecture outline. “Tell him the contents are excellent, and we look forward to his arrival.”

After confirming the lecture date, Liang En spent several days working on his speech. Having finished transcribing a novel previously, he now had enough time for this task.

Finally, the day of the lecture arrived. Early in the morning, Liang En got up, washed, had breakfast, checked the temperature, and wore a vest under his suit, adding a tie.

Usually, Liang En wouldn't dress so formally, but given the serious nature of the lecture, formal attire seemed appropriate.

After getting ready, Liang En drove off in his SUV. Joan of Arc didn’t accompany him this time because she was busy with Elizabeth Bathory, organizing some industrial matters.

Though many joked about Joan being a country girl, her family was actually gentry rather than pure farmers. Her later experiences naturally equipped her with significant management skills.

So now, she was proactively assisting Elizabeth in handling these businesses, leaving her unable to accompany Liang En to University College Cork.

It was about 200 kilometers from Dublin to Cork, but the road was excellent, so Liang En reached his destination smoothly in just over two hours.

After parking, Liang En walked along the paths inside the campus, passing through the student center and a large lawn before seeing the iconic dormitory building of the university.

This was a typical old European-style building with grey stone walls and sculptures exuding historical charm, resembling a royal palace from the outside.

The campus was very quiet. Some students were scattered on the neatly mowed lawn, reading books or napping under trees. This lawn was originally meant for their use.

Many students were walking quietly along the paths with books or backpacks, including some Asian faces. Given the university’s friendliness towards international students, it naturally attracted many to study there.

Liang En wasn’t here to relive his student days. He made a turn on the lawn, headed left towards the library, and then walked in.

This library, built in 1983, was a multifunctional modern library housing nearly a million books, the largest in the region. It was named after the university’s first mathematician, Mr. Bolles.

Unlike the traditional buildings across from it, this one was a standard modernist building, looking more fashionable and contemporary.

“Good afternoon, Professor Hunter,” Liang En greeted his old professional course professor, quickening his pace to shake hands and walk up the library steps together.

“Honestly, I didn’t expect you to achieve so much,” Professor Hunter remarked emotionally as they entered the library.

“Actually, I didn’t expect it either. But through a series of fortuitous events, I encountered many things and gradually reached where I am today,” Liang En replied with a smile and a shrug.

In his memory, before transmigrating, he was just an above-average student, quiet in class, so the professor’s reaction wasn’t surprising.

People do change, so the professor wasn’t too surprised by Liang En’s transformation. Soon, they entered the scheduled lecture hall.

The hall could accommodate over 200 people, but only about half the seats were filled. Given the professional nature of the lecture, only students from that specialty attended.

Since the university focused on engineering and business, there weren’t many students in archaeology and history. Thus, those present were all the available students in that field.
