Chapter 487: The End of the Competition

Everyone still held confidence in the future of this region, so Liang En had a very harmonious talk with the mayor. During their conversation, they agreed on several matters and reached multiple collaborative plans.

After returning to the castle from the mayor's, Liang En and the others began to move these valuable documents, sorting them by type and placing them on the iron shelves.

It was a tiresome and complex task, so by evening, they had only managed to complete a fifth of the work, estimating that it might take two more days to finish.

That night, everyone slept in the residence beneath the castle. However, due to a shortage of beds, many had to resort to sleeping bags on the floor.

Fortunately, as everyone became more adept at the task the next day, the work sped up considerably, and by that evening, all tasks were smoothly completed.

Liang En had wanted to let these people stay another day to rest well, but the professional workers were eager to return to Central Europe to welcome the next round of business. By evening, only Liang En and two others remained there.

"How do you plan to handle these documents?" Fan Meng asked curiously during dinner. "Surely you don’t intend to just collect them like some people do."

"Of course not. The value of these documents lies in their content, so the real value is in allowing more people to see them," Liang En replied with a smile. "That’s why I plan to collaborate with others to digitize these documents."

Digitizing paper documents is a current trend because, in this digital era, making these important documents digital facilitates more research on the subject.

Of course, digitizing these old documents isn't a simple matter of using a scanner, as some of the documents are quite fragile and require specialized facilities and personnel.

Thankfully, many of these documents are unique, so it was easy to find willing helpers over the phone from the National Library of Ireland.

These helpers were all volunteers, and even the accommodation costs were covered by the library. Liang En’s only expense was sharing these documents with the library.

For the library, these documents are considered valuable research material on Central European medieval folk customs, particularly since Heydrich, despite being a thorough war criminal, was undeniably insightful in this area.

In addition to the technicians who came to digitize the documents and the accompanying researchers, Liang En also called in three personnel from the White Knight Security Company to handle the forthcoming security.

Previously, White Knight Security Company had very few staff, as their capital was limited, allowing only a small but elite team.

However, with the development of their emerald mine in Guatemala, they began to expand significantly to fulfill their most important guarding tasks.

While there’s a tendency to hire those with military experience to reduce training time, considerations of safety come after loyalty.

During training, it naturally became apparent that some might not be suited for life as a security guard, so they were reassigned to positions better suited for them, such as logistics support or intelligence analysis, or to the company’s largest department: daily security operations.

Places like the mines in Guatemala indeed require strictly trained personnel for protection, but not all places do, such as museums in Czechia or the Sun Cave in Scotland.

There, guards only need sufficient patience, a serious work ethic, and basic combat and weapons handling skills.

Similarly, this castle in Romania did not expect a high influx of semi-military bandits, so three ordinary reliable security personnel should suffice to secure it.

Since these documents were indeed attractive, the day after the movers left, three workers from the Irish Library arrived with a specialized scanner by plane.

Two hours before their arrival, three professional security personnel from White Knight Security had already arrived and began setting up the corresponding defensive measures based on the information provided by Liang En.

Finally, in the afternoon of that day, Liang En finished arranging these trivial matters. Considering how busy he had been recently, he decided to spend a few days relaxing in Romania.

Unfortunately, often people’s goals and desires are not the same. When the three of them arrived in Bucharest, Romania’s capital, intending to tour the city, Liang En unexpectedly received a call from the president of the Golden Dawn.

"President Charles, what’s the matter?" Liang En asked after checking the caller ID and answering the phone. "I remember I’ve already submitted all the data from the last expedition."

"Of course, of course, the data you provided was very thorough," the president’s voice came through the phone. "The reason I’m calling is that the competition has now ended."

"Ah, yes, a month has passed, and the competition has indeed ended." Liang En realized this only when the other party mentioned it, as he had been too busy recently to remember the competition’s timeline.

"How did it go? Did the others find anything valuable? I recall Nelson went to the Caribbean in search of Blackbeard’s relics; did he find

 anything?"

"Nelson did make some discoveries, but they weren't quite what he expected," President Charles replied promptly.

"He indeed found a shipwreck and salvaged about two kilograms of gold jewelry and over five hundred silver coins, but the ship turned out to be a merchant ship belonging to the Spanish Viceroyalty, unrelated to Blackbeard."

For marine salvors, it’s not uncommon to find a different ship than expected due to inaccuracies in ancient records and ocean currents. So, Nelson accidentally stumbling upon a valuable ship was already considered a best-case scenario, even though it wasn't the massive fortune of Blackbeard’s treasure he had hoped for.

It's known that many salvors end up finding nothing, and there have even been those who went completely bankrupt from a single expedition. This is why Liang En has been reluctant to engage in salvage operations.

"So it sounds like Nelson’s situation turned out quite well, at least he managed to make some gains," Liang En said with a smile. "It seems that our Golden Dawn did quite well in this competition."
