After everyone was ready, Officer Burke took a soft bulletproof vest from the box he had carried up and put it on. He then loaded his handgun and stepped forward to knock on the door.
"Hello, I'm Officer Burke from Interpol. I need to arrest Mr. Hans among you—" As the door opened, Officer Burke presented the arrest warrant and spoke.
However, before he could finish, the person inside grabbed Officer Burke by the collar and dragged him into the house, clearly intending to kill him to silence him.
Officer Burke immediately called for help and tried to draw his weapon. But another person grabbed his hand and helped the first person drag him into the room.
Officer Burke struggled fiercely, knowing that doing something was better than doing nothing. More importantly, he knew that Liang En and the others were ambushed in the corner, and he only needed to hold on for a few seconds to get support.
Sure enough, within a second, he heard rapid footsteps approaching, followed by a gunshot.
Burke felt something whiz past his ear, causing a sharp pain in his eardrum. The man trying to draw his gun inside sprouted a flower of blood from his shoulder, and the gun fell to the ground.
Seeing someone inside with a gun, Liang En decisively chose to resolve the issue with his gun. In just one or two seconds, Burke heard four gunshots from behind him.
When the last shot fell silent, Burke saw that the four men who had been menacing him moments ago were all down, each with a gunshot wound to the shoulder, lying on the ground.
Unlike in many movies where characters can take seven or eight shots and still act normally, in reality, unless someone has iron willpower, just one bullet can incapacitate them.
These men, who appeared brutal, were in fact cowards who bullied the weak. Now they were all writhing on the ground, clutching their wounds.
It had to be said that the "Quick Shooter" card was highly effective in close-quarters gunfights. Even with a semi-automatic pistol, Liang En managed to control the situation before the opponents could react.
Despite being somewhat frightened by Liang En's shooting so close to him, Officer Burke, who had experienced various situations, adjusted his state within a second of the last shot, then rushed into the room.
Stepping over the men on the floor, he saw his target standing hesitantly by the window, clearly contemplating but fearing to jump out.
After all, this was the fourth floor. Jumping could result in death or serious injury. Even with luck, without someone to catch him, escape was impossible.
More importantly, he hadn't expected the policeman to react so quickly after the gunshots. Instead of killing the officer, his four men had been quickly overwhelmed.
"I surrender! I’m the Vice President of the Thule Society. Don’t shoot!" Seeing Burke pointing a gun at him, the man raised his hands and lay down on the ground with smooth, practiced movements.
This cooperation surprised Burke because the information he had indicated that this man was extremely calm, like a cold-blooded killer, especially when he ordered the murder of the Golden Society's president.
Prepared for all scenarios, including emptying his clip at the first sign of resistance, Burke hadn't expected the man to be so cowardly.
Since the man had surrendered, Burke followed protocol, handcuffing him before meeting Liang En and the others outside.
"Everything's under control, but I suggest getting medical personnel here. Though Jeanne can temporarily bandage and stop their bleeding, professional treatment is needed for broken bones and severed blood vessels."
Seeing Burke bring out the only unharmed prisoner, Liang En whispered to Jeanne, who was bandaging the last prisoner.
"Don't worry, I'll call for more support." Burke seemed angry. Being betrayed by a colleague while on the frontline is infuriating.
Because the previous phone call alerted them to a mole in the police station, Burke used a different number to call for support this time.
Minutes later, another group of police and medical personnel arrived to take away the captured criminals. Meanwhile, Liang En learned via radio that Officer Jeanne and Fan Meng had intercepted and arrested the driver.
As they headed downstairs, Liang En noticed sounds behind the doors of surrounding rooms, indicating people were observing them.
He sensed that these people were hiding behind their doors, listening but afraid to come out.
In a chaotic place like this, residents were likely either criminals or vulnerable individuals, unwilling to get involved in such dangerous situations.
"Thank you so much. I wouldn't have known what to do without your help," Burke thanked Liang En outside the police station after a brief statement.
"It's nothing. It was just a small effort for me," Liang En smiled. "By the way, did you find the mole in the police station?"
"Yes, it was just a call center worker who was paid to notify the gang whenever the police acted," Burke shook his head helplessly.
"For 50 euros per tip, these low-level employees, with their meager incomes, would earn some illegal extra cash."
"Usually, he'd notify them about minor operations. He wouldn’t alert them about serious cases. But this time, he mistook us for an immigration raid and informed the local gang."
"Prague is an important base for the Thule Society, so within five minutes, our target was alerted. You know the rest."
"It was quite unexpected. We imagined many scenarios but didn't anticipate such an accidental exposure," Liang En found the situation somewhat dramatic.
"Nevertheless, the outcome is good. We caught the murderer and now have a chance to learn the Thule Society's next plans."
