"...What are you?"
"Huh?"
Pressed for an answer, Yoo Seowoo—or rather, the boy—tilted his head. His eyes, which they met, appeared innocently pure. Kang Sihyun stood quietly for a long while, facing those eyes that were packed with the worries and purity of a young child.
Blinking slowly.
The boy's platinum eyes closed and then opened again. His long eyelashes moved leisurely, lifting up the sunlight. Enjoying how the light collected on his pale eyelashes wasn’t such a bad way to spend time. After what seemed like a long while, at least 15 minutes of this standoff, Kang Sihyun realized that he was not Yoo Seowoo.
If it really had been him, he would have chuckled and realized it by now, saying something sly or something similar.
He looks crazily similar.
If Yoo Seowoo had an innocent younger brother, this would be what it felt like.
"Does it hurt a lot?"
Without saying a word, just watching silently, the boy reached out his hand towards Kang Sihyun's back. His little finger barely touched the air around the wound before falling away. Groaning. It wasn't his own pain, yet he groaned and dropped his head deeply.
"I'm sorry."
"Why are you sorry? You didn’t do anything."
"Huh?"
"Ah."
The words reflexively slipped out.
Typical of Yoo Seowoo to say something like that.
It was impossible not to point out such an incongruous statement.
Kang Sihyun sighed looking at the boy who looked up at him with a slightly surprised face. He didn’t know what kind of language or behavior the original had used. And he had spoken rashly. He couldn’t predict what kind of backlash would come.
What was this dream anyway?
Was it really a dream?
Kang Sihyun glanced at his hands, which had shrunk. He then slowly clenched and unclenched his fist. Next, he bent each finger, starting with the pinky, and then spread them out again. Every movement was naturally seamless.
Unlike when he was Adam.
When he dreamed of being Adam, Kang Sihyun could only repeat the designated actions of Adam’s memory, but now that he was Gren, he felt incredibly free. As if he had possessed the real Gren’s body, as if he had taken it over.
Yes, just like when he himself became Kang Sihyun.
Hmm.
It’s an unwelcome assumption.
Kang Sihyun furrowed his brow just thinking about such an unsettling assumption. The boy's expression darkened at what he thought.
"I should have stopped Leonard."
Brother?
Their hair and eye colors were completely different, right?
Kang Sihyun looked incredulously at the boy. To call him a brother, the boy looked nothing like Leonard or that man who claimed to be the owner. Most importantly, Little Yoo Seowoo looked much prettier than them. There was no comparison.
However, considering the context, it was clear that he was close enough to Leonard to use the term 'stop' as if they were brothers, probably either emotionally or biologically close.
And it was likely the latter.
Although they looked very different, judging by the boy's attitude and his tone, he didn’t seem very close to Leonard. Rather, he seemed wary and fearful. The fleeting fear in his platinum eyes when he mentioned Leonard’s name proved it.
A half-brother, maybe?
Kang Sihyun made the most likely hypothesis and swallowed his saliva.
That was not enough information.
Kang Sihyun needed more information.
He had just realized he would have to stay here quite a while.
There was no other way.
To return to the real world where Kang Sihyun’s body was, he seemed to need a vast amount of divine power, but the divine power in this body was sealed. It would take quite a while to break through the thick seal, and until then, he had to stay in this world.
Not as Kang Sihyun but as Gren.
So, he needed a little more information. Kang Sihyun was too ignorant about this world.
It seemed there was no other choice.
Kang Sihyun paused for a moment and then met the boy's eyes.
"What is it?"
"I have something to confess."
"...A confession?"
Whoosh, the boy's face turned red upon hearing the story. If it had been Yoo Seowoo, such a reaction would have been unimaginable, so Kang Sihyun blinked in surprise and stared at the blushing boy.
He seemed embarrassed, covering his flushed neck with his hand, which was quite a curious sight. After all, he had the face of Yoo Seowoo’s childhood, so it was hard not to look.
It seems I might have given him the wrong idea.
He had no intention of showing any affection, but the boy in
front of him seemed to have mistaken that he had harbored romantic feelings for him. Unintentionally, it felt like he was playing with the young boy's pure heart.
I wondered why he was being so kind.
It seemed he liked Gren.
Even though both Gren and the boy were males, as Kang Sihyun had already been the target of affection from several men, it wasn’t so unusual for a man to like another man. Kang Sihyun wouldn’t have been surprised even if Gren and the boy were dating.
However, given the boy's shy reaction, they didn’t seem to be in a romantic relationship.
It appeared to be a one-sided affection.
It was a pity.
The Gren he liked had disappeared for a while.
Kang Sihyun proceeded with the plan he had set to give Gren back to him.
"It’s not something else, I hurt my head so I don’t remember much."
A plan to pretend to have amnesia to get information.
"What...?"
The boy was surprised by the sudden mention of amnesia. He looked Kang Sihyun up and down with wide eyes, then nodded his head seriously.
"So that’s what it was."
Is he really believing this so easily?
Even if the circumstances fit, wouldn’t people usually ask a few more times or check if it really was amnesia?
Kang Sihyun was startled by his own excuse. He was worried that it was going too smoothly, but the boy already believed Kang Sihyun’s claim of having lost his memory completely.
"Don’t worry, I’ll help you. Gren."
The boy took Kang Sihyun’s hand and smiled brightly.
How can he survive in such a harsh world with such innocence?
Kang Sihyun was starting to worry about Little Yoo Seowoo.
Unlike the Yoo Seowoo he knew, this world's little Yoo Seowoo seemed like an innocent young lord, completely unaware of any trickery. He was a perfect target for deceit.
I must have acted quite differently from Gren.
Kang Sihyun sighed deeply to himself.
Whether his heart was troubled or not, the boy took Kang Sihyun’s hand and walked through the garden.
"Um, where should I start explaining."
He told Kang Sihyun various things without even being asked, such as that Kang Sihyun’s name was Gren and he was the gardener’s son living in the attic of this mansion, occasionally a playmate of the mansion's children and sometimes taking their punishments.
These were surprisingly practical pieces of information.
Even without asking, he just picked out and told what was necessary.
He looked naïve, but this aspect seemed similar to Yoo Seowoo.
The way he instinctively noticed what was needed and helped without being told.
Kang Sihyun nodded along as the boy continued to explain. He didn’t even ask how much Kang Sihyun remembered or where his memory stopped, he just explained everything upfront, which made things very comfortable for Kang Sihyun.
He didn’t need to think up unnecessary excuses or carefully choose his words.
Kang Sihyun just needed to listen.
To the beautiful stories chattered by the boy with a sweet voice.
"The person working in the kitchen is Mrs. Mary and Bell..."
The boy’s explanation was also easy to understand. He neatly organized who did what and where, which made it incredibly easy for Kang Sihyun to remember.
As the boy finished explaining about the servants, Kang Sihyun felt confident.
He felt he could live here as Gren without any awkwardness for about a fortnight.
Around that time, the boy also explained about the mansion. Only then did Kang Sihyun realize this place was a baronet’s estate. No wonder the building looked quite antique.
“Is this enough?”
“You are.”
“Huh?”
“You haven’t talked about yourself though.”
After telling him everything else, he hadn’t talked about himself. Kang Sihyun stared intently at the boy, whom he still only internally referred to as Little Yoo Seowoo, as he still didn’t know his name.
“Ah...”
The boy hesitated for a moment and then grinned sheepishly.
His pure smile made Kang Sihyun smile unknowingly. Then the boy opened his mouth.
“My name is Day. I’m the same age as you, Gren...”
The boy paused for a moment, then glanced at Kang Sihyun, and then showed a sunny smile.
“We were, um, fond of each other.”
Look at this kid?
Kang Sihyun blushed and sighed at the boy’s shy and incredulous attitude.
Such natural lies and flirtations.
It really seemed like this kid was Yoo Seowoo.
