Late at night.
In the quiet lamplight, Lu Yan pursed his lips, momentarily unsure of how to respond.
Thankfully, a polite knock on the door interrupted the silence.
The newcomer seemed to be a gentleman, who, with deliberate rhythm, lightly tapped the door three times, neither more nor less.
"[The visitor is a person, the captain, with a pollution value of twelve thousand. We all call him Luo Yi. When he was still human, Luo Yi was in charge of piloting and maintenance aboard the Noah. Even after becoming a pollutant, his responsibilities remain the same. In addition, he is tasked with protecting the passengers on this ship.]"
Lu Yan raised an eyebrow slightly. "Protection?"
"Of course."
"[Although Luo Yi is not a perfect evolution... during the annual pilgrimage to Laiye, he gained powers no less than any perfect evolution.]"
"[Thanks to the lack of signal at sea, over twenty years have passed, and there has been no communication between the captain and Lu Cheng.]"
Lu Yan's hand rested on Tang Xunan's back, pressing down the knife he was about to pull out.
He coughed softly twice and opened the door.
A pungent smell of seawater assaulted him. Lu Yan glanced at the massive octopus-like figure before him.
"Huh, an octopus in naval uniform."
Luo Yi's uniform was very worn, and his body appeared swollen as if filled with water, nearly touching the ceiling.
Like the other crew members, his head was replaced by a huge octopus, with slimy and nauseating mucus dripping from the edges of his tentacles.
His protruding eyes resembled goldfish eyeballs, hanging on both sides of his cheeks.
Now, those eyeballs were fixed on Lu Yan.
"[Follow my lead; it's time to showcase some real acting skills. Have you ever studied acting?]"
"Long time no see."
Lu Yan's voice changed slightly, hoarse and low, as if he had aged ten years in an instant.
"Indeed. My friend. Over twenty years have passed... and you still haven't become a pollutant? It seems the chaos on the ground isn't enough yet."
One of Luo Yi's small tentacles approached Lu Yan's neck from behind.
Lu Yan raised his arm and suddenly grabbed the restless tentacle.
His nails were long and sharp, like dinner knives, as he severed the tentacle. Pale red fluid oozed out, and Lu Yan tossed the mashed mass onto the floor.
Lu Yan replied, "Soon. Your tentacles are still as unruly as ever."
The captain didn't answer the question but sniffed deeply. "I smell it; there's someone else's scent in your room. It's fresh, fragrant..."
Several tentacles scraped against the threshold, some maliciously probing forward.
Lu Yan didn't stop them but said slowly, "This is a sacrifice I selected this year. Do you like it?"
The wriggling tentacles abruptly halted.
Luo Yi retracted his tentacles, a smile still evident in his voice. "How could I dare to touch an offering to the gods? Speaking of which, where's that child?"
Lu Yan knew "the child" referred to himself.
He waited for the system's response.
After a moment of silence, the system replied with difficulty, "[He didn't mature and was just a failure. I have already destroyed him.]"
Lu Yan lowered his gaze and said, "He didn't mature and was just a failure. I have already destroyed him."
The captain's large hand rested on his shoulder. "Don't be discouraged; we still have time. Why did you suddenly come this year without telling me? You sneaked onto the ship so quietly; if I hadn't sensed the human presence on board, I wouldn't have known you were here."
Lu Yan replied, "I don't like being seen by too many people."
"Hehe... that's understandable. After all, you're the Prophet... I am what I am today, thanks to you."
The hand pressing on Lu Yan's shoulder suddenly exerted force. If it weren't for his reinforced body, this strength could have crushed the bones of any mammal.
Lu Yan didn't speak but swiftly pulled out the dagger from his waist and stabbed it into his own shoulder.
The hellfire pierced through Luo Yi's thick palm, and the tip of the blade deeply penetrated the flesh.
Foul-smelling liquid oozed from the captain's wound, emitting an odor reminiscent of the dissected giant's explosion during the anatomy class.
Luo Yi's palm bore burn marks, and he withdrew his hand, saying, "Don't be nervous; I don't blame you. Humans are indeed too weak. I quite enjoy my life now."
Several thick tentacles wrapped around Lu Yan's waist in a hug. "Welcome aboard the Noah Ferry. Wishing you a pleasant journey, my passenger."
Even though the captain's murderous intent wasn't strong, a large purple bruise still formed on Lu Yan's shoulder.
The hellfire not only pierced Luo Yi's palm but also slashed Lu Yan's shoulder.
Thanks to his talent for regeneration, this injury was not serious for Lu Yan. However, the mucus on the captain's tentacles effectively inhibited the wound's healing. Several minutes passed, and blood continued to seep from the wound.
The blood gradually soaked his coat.
"Let me see," Tang Xunan said.
Lu Yan let him unbutton his shirt.
He looked at the man in front of him, whose golden eyes stared straight ahead, slightly lowering his head. Even from this deathly angle, his handsome face still showed no flaws.
Tang Xunan stared at the wound on his shoulder for a moment and asked, "Can I lick it?"
The system: "[The dog dragon is indeed a treasure trove. Bones can be used to make arrows, dragon tendons can be drawn out to make bowstrings, scales can be removed to make armor, and even saliva can be used as a healing agent. I have to admit, this is the best anti-inflammatory and analgesic you can find under current conditions.]"
Lu Yan replied, "Yes."
His shoulder itched slightly, and Lu Yan's consciousness flickered for a moment, feeling that if he had a big dog, it might be the same to let it lick him.
The wound finally began to gradually heal itself.
"You heard everything," Lu Yan asked.
Denying was unnecessary; Tang Xunan replied, "Yes."
Because he was cold and tired, Lu Yan's response seemed feeble: "I know a little more than you do. Lu Cheng is not my biological father. I was picked up by him from the sea. I'm sorry I brought you here... but I was too afraid."
Afraid.
