The city center of City X became a boiling sea of fire, but there was a clear divide around Lu Yan, where the scorching flames extinguished within half a meter of him, not a single hair singed.
The Rabbit Butcher, tucked away in Lu Yan's pocket, uncomfortably smoothed out the singed fur on his ears. "Dad, what are we doing here?"
Lu Yan casually replied, "Saving your stepfather."
The system roared, "[I disagree with this arrangement!]"
The inferno not only ignited the Hounds but everything combustible.
Amidst the flames, buildings collapsed and crumbled to dust one after another.
Seeing the unfavorable situation, Lu Zhi turned to run, but the Black Dragon clamped onto him firmly.
It had been a long time since she had been in such a sorry state since becoming a Pollutant.
Like a gecko, she voluntarily severed seven of her tails, leaving only one to wriggle free like a snake.
Tang Xunan didn't pursue, or perhaps, he was too weakened to deliver the final blow.
The system chimed in, "[Lu Zhi is severely injured and has lost a significant portion of her strength. The outsiders can handle her now.]"
"Though occasionally I find humans to be useless, even the most worthless among them can tenaciously uphold order, sheltering the majority of their kin. They won't let this opportunity slip by," the system added.
With that, Lu Yan withdrew his gaze.
The talent Dragon's Bones abruptly halted, and the enormous Black Dragon returned to its normal size.
Tang Xunan was covered in scales all over, even his face, resembling a creature from Western mythology, a hybrid of man and dragon.
Without the system needing to say much, anyone with eyes could see that Tang Xunan's condition was dire, covered in blood from head to toe.
"Infection level at 96.4%," the system reported.
"Lower than I expected," Lu Yan murmured.
"Walnut. You haven't given him anything before, but the Dog Dragon always carries a walnut with him. Before the fight, he thought he might not win, so he ate it while he was still clear-headed," the system explained.
Lu Yan fell silent for a moment. "Can we perform surgery to remove the infection?"
"We can, but it should wait until his condition improves. Removing the source of pollution now, coupled with Tang Xunan's own healing abilities, will make it difficult to repair the wounds left by the Hounds and the Orochi," the system responded.
In Tang Xunan's field of vision, a green area appeared on his body.
On Tang Xunan's neck, there were the fangs injected by Lu Zhi.
Encountering various types of patients in the emergency room was normal, and Lu Yan had treated elderly farmers bitten by mountain snakes before.
He used his nails to cut a piece of cloth, tied a knot around Tang Xunan's neck, about 5 centimeters away from the wound. This was to slow down the circulation of blood in the body.
Lu Yan cut away the necrotic flesh with a knife, squeezing out the deep blue blood.
He stopped his actions when the blood turned red.
"Antiserum..." Lu Yan murmured, "There's no antiserum."
After being bitten by a snake, antiserum was needed.
"Though I'm not particularly willing, indeed, your blood can be used," the system said.
So, Lu Yan used the knife to cut his palm, extending his hand.
He could even control the regeneration speed now. The blood converged into a small pool in his palm, like a lake.
Not a drop was wasted.
Tang Xunan licked his palm, reminding Lu Yan of the experience of feeding stray dogs in high school.
But stray dogs wouldn't give him this much trouble.
Tang Xunan was weak, murmuring indistinctly. Lu Yan bent down, leaning closer to listen, but his voice sounded like a dragon's roar, making it impossible to discern.
The system provided the answer: "[He wants you to save Bai Ze.]"
Lu Yan took the Rabbit Butcher out of his pocket. "Go find the other person."
The Rabbit Butcher, being a Pollutant, was more sensitive to human odors. It sniffed around and then crawled in front of a pile of ruins, digging like a groundhog.
Though the flames hadn't been extinguished, the sky in the other world gradually brightened.
"The Lord's pollution level isn't high, and the Inner World he constructed can't withstand such intense fighting. It's already starting to merge with the Outer World... in other words, there are no more restrictions," the system informed.
This increased the pressure on the staff at the Prevention and Control Center. The specially deployed Harbingers didn't have time to rest and began searching the streets to prevent further casualties.
The flies buzzing around City X, originally the eyes of the Butchers monitoring the livestock, now became guideposts for the Harbingers. Wherever there were many flies, Butchers were sure to be lurking.
In no time, the entire City X became a river of blood.
Lu Zhi's fingers dug deep into the tree trunk, her expression fierce and ferocious. "My slaughterhouse...!"
Behind her, a gorilla-like Butcher sounded anxious. "Boss, we should leave now. The humans will be here soon."
Lu Zhi's body was still dripping with deep blue blood, surrounded by a swarm of flies buzzing around her.
To cover Lu Zhi's retreat, the few remaining senior Butchers in the slaughterhouse joined the battle.
"Where can we go?!" Lu Zhi's tone was furious, her long nails almost pinching into her flesh. "As long as humans continue to dominate the discourse in the world, there will be no place for creatures like us anywhere!"
Her fierce expression was starkly different from her usual confident demeanor, even appearing terrifyingly monstrous.
The gorilla Butcher, a simple man, was momentarily intimidated and didn't know how to respond.
Strange, bird-like wing-flapping sounds came from Lu Zhi's ear.
A crow landed on a branch, and Lu Zhi glanced up, pulling out a small knife from her armlet and throwing it, stabbing the crow fiercely.
The black crow let out a cry, a massive blood hole pierced by the small knife, but it didn't die. Instead, it grinned and let out a raucous shriek.
This crow was different from other blood crows; it was transformed from one of Odin's eyes.
This was also why Odin always wore an eye patch.
Odin opened his eye, covering his slightly sore eye socket, and said to the people behind him, "Found it. Follow me."
