Standing on the city wall and looking at the alien mountains and alien seas, the feeling was completely different from being right in the midst of it. Back then, it was overwhelming, but actually being amidst it could only evoke a fear deep from within the soul!
It felt as desperate as a leaf adrift in an endless ocean.
Sitting in the armored vehicle, hearing the alien creatures pounding against the vehicle outside, "bang, bang, bang," everyone shuddered in terror.
For a moment, the inside of the vehicle fell into complete silence.
After a while, when the aliens walked far enough away, Geng Liangguan asked, "Captain Fu, which way do we go?"
Fu Shiwu was actually quite bewildered at the moment. He didn't know which way to go, but no matter how stiff he was, he knew he couldn't say that right now.
Fu Shiwu collected himself and said to Geng Liangguan, "Let's start searching from the west side of Pei City, then follow a counterclockwise direction. My perception range is about a kilometer, try to cover as much ground as possible without any omissions."
Hearing him speak calmly, although without any leads at the moment, Geng Liangguan felt a bit reassured. At least it shouldn't be futile.
Tang Xuhai patted his shoulder and reassured, "Don't worry, the armored vehicle is fully fueled; we can definitely traverse this battlefield."
Fu Shiwu nodded calmly and released his perception, scanning piece by piece.
As the armored vehicle moved further away from the aliens on the roof, those creatures trying to break into the turtle shell-like vehicle finally gave up, giving everyone inside a sigh of relief.
Fu Shiwu's mind was filled with images of second-level aliens covering the mountains. His heart tightened. He knew facing so many second-level aliens, one misstep could mean death. He wasn't afraid of dying himself, but he feared the others who came with him might lose their lives in vain, unable to fulfill the mission he promised.
Regardless, he had to find the silhouette of a third-level alien!
Fu Shiwu's face started to pale, beads of sweat dripped from his forehead, his blood circulation quickened, and even the wounds that were bandaged before departure started to seep blood.
"...Is he alright?" one of the soldiers sitting opposite him couldn't help but ask, seeing his condition.
Tang Xuhai shot him a cold glance and wiped the sweat from Fu Shiwu's face with his hand.
He said, "He has been on the city wall all day, hasn't rested at night, and has been consecutively using his abilities; he's reaching his limit."
The soldier fell silent.
Everyone knew the situation; there was no time for him to rest and recover. Every moment delayed meant more casualties in Pei City.
Even if a few of them watched Fu Shiwu struggling, they couldn't let him stop.
Fu Shiwu's head buzzed; his vision darkened, a dizzying sensation of almost fainting rushed to his head.
Fu Shiwu bit his lower lip tightly, determined not to faint at this moment.
Forcing himself against the dizziness, his perception slowly expanded, spreading into the endless darkness.
The discomfort he felt physically, mentally, and emotionally tormented Fu Shiwu.
His mind was filled with random thoughts: sometimes determined to persevere despite the pain, other times contemplating giving up and fainting away.
The extreme agony made Fu Shiwu want to cry out but he desperately held back.
At that moment, a warm sensation gently soothed his forehead, a comfortable feeling flowed into his mind through his forehead, easing the dizziness a bit, causing Fu Shiwu to shudder involuntarily.
Then, a warm chest embraced his shoulders, carefully avoiding his neck, shielding him in front.
Gradually, warm sensations spread from one side of his shoulder to half of his back.
Comforted...
Fu Shiwu sighed. It must be Tang Xuhai embracing him. Only he, at this moment, could provide such warmth.
The unbearable discomfort throughout his body lessened, and Fu Shiwu regained some strength. The visual images that were nearly collapsing became clearer again, and his sense extended even further unconsciously.
A crisp sound, like something breaking, reverberated. Fu Shiwu's mind buzzed.
"What's wrong?!" Tang Xuhai, alert.
"Why is he rolling his eyes?! Could he be dead?!"
"Shut up!!" Tang Xuhai roared, pushing away the alarmed soldiers crowding in.
He sternly supported Fu Shiwu's clammy face, lightly patted his cheek, pinched his chin, "Shiwu? Shiwu? Wake up."
Fu Shiwu blinked slowly, lifted his head, then groaned, cradling his head.
This groan almost made Tang Xuhai's nose tingle, feeling extremely distressed. How much pain was Fu Shiwu enduring? The usually silent guy couldn't help but moan aloud.
"Shiwu... if you're in so much pain, take a short nap first. At least half an hour or an hour, Pei City's defenders can hold on." Tang Xuhai's voice trembled.
He was on the verge of heartache. If Shiwu continued to push himself like this, would he survive?
Half an hour could mean the death of many, but neither Geng Liangguan nor his comrades opposed Tang Xuhai's decision.
They all knew that if they allowed him to continue using his abilities until he collapsed, their mission would fail. There would be no point in their survival.
"I'm fine..." Fu Shiwu weakly nasalized. He closed his eyes, leaned against Tang Xuhai's neck, completely devoid of strength, as if his mind had been hollowed out.
"No!" Tang Xuhai couldn't bear it anymore. He firmly said, "You must rest for a while, even if it's just ten minutes."
Fu Shiwu, with a pale face, raised his head. His glasses slid down, revealing his fragile eyes as he looked directly at Tang Xuhai. "How can I possibly fall asleep?"
Tang Xuhai's face hardened; he said firmly, "Leave this to me."
After speaking, he raised his hand and pinched Fu Shiwu's neck. Fu Shiwu instantly lost consciousness, slumping down.
Tang Xuhai expressionlessly held his sliding body, pulled him close, settled him down, and carefully adjusted his glasses.
Inside the armored vehicle, silence descended again, only the humming of the vehicle's movements persisted.
After a while, the driver at the front spoke, "Captain, which way should we go? Or should we stop and wait for Captain Fu to wake up?"
Tang Xuhai lifted his head, sharply looking at the driver, "No need to stop! During the day, our captain has been scanning the area near F22. That segment has never shown any sign of a third-level alien, so it's considered a cleared area. So, for now, let's head towards that area and start eliminating from the outermost regions."
Geng Liangguan nodded, "That's the plan."
The F zone was precisely on
the west side of the city gate, a bit remote, and the armored vehicle rumbled as it turned its head towards the direction they guarded during the day.
After about ten minutes, the armored vehicle struggled to reach the area. Tang Xuhai reluctantly had to wake Fu Shiwu up.
After waking up, Fu Shiwu felt much better mentally and didn't look as terrible. Even his thoughts were clearer.
The armored vehicle stopped in place, waiting for him to scan the surroundings.
Fu Shiwu started scanning from his position, expanding up to a thousand meters around him.
He gritted his teeth, slowly extending his perception to the edges. Surprisingly, he easily surpassed the distance of a thousand meters.
"Hmm?" Fu Shiwu was surprised.
"What's wrong?" Tang Xuhai was on high alert.
"It's nothing. My perception range has expanded," Fu Shiwu said, surprised and pleased.
Tang Xuhai remained silent. His abilities, as per Dr. Z's explanation, entirely relied on tapping into hidden potential. Fu Shiwu's reckless use of his abilities would inevitably lead to growth.
The soldiers in the vehicle stared at him without speaking. This gifted individual responsible for finding third-level aliens had exhausted all efforts in the search. Once he found the target, the rest was up to them to handle.
Inwardly determined, they wouldn't dare to disappoint his hard work.
This time, Fu Shiwu clearly felt an increase in his abilities. His perception diffused more effortlessly, and the range expanded further. However, these visions were only black and white outlines. If he wanted more detail, he couldn't extend the range that far.
Fu Shiwu's gaze became intense. "There's nothing here. Let's head southwest."
The soldier driving didn't hesitate, and the armored vehicle moved toward the east.
As they advanced, Fu Shiwu noticed only second-level aliens were directly heading toward Pei City, while first-level aliens were retreating along the hillside.
"It should be here!" Fu Shiwu affirmed.
"Are you sure?!" Geng Liangguan stood up, eager and ready to make a move.
"Positive!" Fu Shiwu nodded.
"Great!" Geng Liangguan excitedly pounded the vehicle and shouted to the driver, "Full speed ahead!!!"
