The Zuo Chuan shouted from behind them, "Whether it's superpowers or not, a concrete test will reveal it."
Fu Shiwu hesitated for a moment but was dragged away by Tang Xuhai.
Tang Xuhai turned back, irritated, "Stop it, don't think of him as your guinea pig for experiments!"
Miao Jia shivered at the mention of scientists, experiments, guinea pigs—how terrifying!
Wen Zhaoming furrowed his brow, glanced at Ouyang Cheng, caught Liao Ke's eager expression, then turned and followed their companions, leaving.
On the way back, Fu Shiwu was unusually silent.
Tang Xuhai gripped the steering wheel, sounding impatient, "Stop overthinking! Even if it's not a superpower, with so many types nowadays, there's nothing particularly conspicuous. No one would think you're special."
Fu Shiwu's concern was causing a stir. He glanced gratefully at Tang Xuhai and murmured, "Hmm," in a subdued tone.
Seeing his subdued mood, Tang Xuhai couldn't resist reaching out to pat his head, but unfortunately, he had washed his hair that morning, hiding his messy hair under his scalp.
Miao Jia chimed in, leaning over, "Exactly! With the alien invasion and no concrete system for abilities, as long as we don't mention it, no one will know that Fu ge isn't really powered."
Wen Zhaoming nodded, "Shiwu, if you're really concerned, we won't bring it up."
Originally a minor dilemma, it had sparked worry among their friends, making Fu Shiwu feel embarrassed, "I won't dwell on this anymore and worry you all. It's just that I'm a bit concerned. Because this isn't an ability, there are too many differences from you guys in the future. I don't know how to develop and train."
Tang Xuhai dismissed it, "What's there to worry about? Haven't you noticed how much stronger your abilities are now compared to when we were at the theater? It's all about using them more, fighting more. Naturally, your abilities will grow. The scientist said it—you belong to the potential type, stimulated by the source molecule to unlock your potential. Isn't that similar to how abilities grow?"
"Potential..." Fu Shiwu pondered.
Upon returning to Courtyard 7, Olande and their group had already returned. Among them, only Zhen Zi was an ability user. Apart from reminding her to get tested at the scientific institute, nobody mentioned anything extra that had occurred.
Zhen Zi's attention was momentarily diverted by this issue, then fully invested in showcasing their achievements.
As expected, Olande slumped on the couch, looking exhausted. He initially thought the shopping trip for daily and outdoor wear would be straightforward. Little did he expect the two women to linger and explore till the afternoon.
Besides carefully coordinating outfits for everyone, they compared goods and painstakingly selected each item.
Liu Peiqi sympathetically said to Olande, "Tired, huh?"
Despite being utterly exhausted, Olande remained gentlemanly and reserved, "Not too bad."
Wang Dan divided the clothes inside the shopping bags, separating each person's belongings.
Tang Xuhai looked astonished at the pile of clothes covering the couch, "How much did you guys buy?!"
Zhen Zi explained, "Not much. We've covered clothes for all seasons here. We also bought thick winter wear and light summer clothes, they're on sale now, very cheap."
Tang Xuhai sighed, "You could've bought them later."
Zhen Zi earnestly replied, "That's not guaranteed. Who knows if there will be clothes available later? Current production isn't certain."
Fu Shiwu examined the clothes placed in front of him. They were jackets, trench coats, shirts, and cardigans, carefully chosen to address his psychological concerns.
"Thank you," Fu Shiwu sincerely expressed his gratitude.
"Don't mention it," Wang Dan smiled at him.
Dinner that night was cooked by Tang Xuhai, far better than Fu Shiwu and Liu Peiqi's culinary skills.
Olande and the others spent the whole day describing the current state of Peicheng's commerce.
There were numerous stores with a wide variety of goods, and the prices weren't high. Even for those earning regular wages, they could afford to shop.
Shortly after dinner, someone rang the doorbell.
"Who could it be at this hour?"
They exchanged looks. They had little connection here, and even those who had left earlier didn't know their current address.
"I'll get it," Miao Jia volunteered.
Approaching the wrought iron gate, Miao Jia was surprised to find a soldier standing outside, composed and dressed in military attire.
Respecting military personnel, Miao Jia hurriedly opened the door.
"Hello, what's the matter?" Miao Jia's slightly naive face briefly startled the officer, who then asked formally, "Does the Dragonbone Legion reside here?"
"Yes," Miao Jia nodded.
"Good, this is a defense task notice. Please give it to your leader," the officer handed over an envelope.
"Alright, thank you," Miao Jia hurriedly accepted it.
"Then I'll take my leave," the officer turned to go.
"Come in for a while!" Miao Jia called out.
"No, I have to deliver letters elsewhere," the officer waved and walked towards other courtyards.
"Who was it?" Wen Zhaoming asked.
"A soldier, delivering a defense mission," Miao Jia raised the envelope.
Tang Xuhai looked serious, standing up, "Give it to me."
It was a defense mission notice issued by the Public Trust Hall. It was their first encounter with the Peicheng garrison's defense task since their arrival.
Each legion and guild received requests for defense from the military before the alien tide attacked the city. After all, only the military could accurately monitor the aliens' movements.
When Tang Xuhai and the others returned, they knew about the massive gathering of aliens and anticipated an eventual attack on Peicheng, but they didn't expect it to happen so suddenly.
"Tomorrow, the closest alien group to Peicheng might launch an attack," Tang Xuhai said gravely.
"Tomorrow?" Wen Zhaoming pondered, then said, "Miao Jia, work a bit harder tonight. See if you can find any useful information. When we go for defense tomorrow, you don't have to come, stay in the courtyard."
Miao Jia solemnly nodded, "Okay."
