Chapter 33: Born for Alchemy - Part 2

Kurov rolled up his sleeves, securing them at the elbows, and donned protective leather gloves, stepping confidently toward the alchemy station.

"You both arrived at the perfect moment. Inside the poison bottles on the alchemy table are toxins of Willow Yellow and Moth Blue."

"The specific effects of these toxins can be found in 'Isolation of Toxins.'"

"Now, I'll infuse them into water, let it settle, and filter it. The three of you shall identify the alchemical creation."

Kurov paused, emphasizing with a stern tone, "Though you're not yet apprentices, a reminder: in concocting toxins, avoid using spells and don't let elemental aides intervene. Understand?"

"Yes, teacher, duly noted," Xia Zuo and companions chorused.

With a nod, Kurov lifted the poison bottles, showcasing the entire alchemical process.

*Pop.*

The Willow Yellow bottle opened, spreading a tangy, sweet yet sour aroma throughout the chamber.

Xia Zuo's eyelid twitched, noticing a change in the character sheet's healing stats.

【Healing Rate】

【Basic Healing Rate】

0.1 point/minute (6 points/hour)

【Real-time Healing Rate】

0.1-0.002→0.098 point/minute (5.988 points/hour)

The recently opened bottle contained concentrated Willow Yellow, emitting a faint bleeding effect.

Xia Zuo glanced at Mason and Brandon, both unperturbed, fixated on the instructor, seemingly oblivious to the abnormality in the air.

No wonder only those with strong wills could partake in the alchemy of poisons...

Xia Zuo shook off distractions, refocusing on the tutor's actions.

Using tweezers, Kurov transferred a bit of Willow Yellow into water, sealed the bottle, then retrieved Moth Blue with another pair of tweezers.

The scents of the two toxins mostly dissipated through the ventilation above the alchemy table, while remnants wafted in the air, gradually diminishing, eventually absorbed by four humanoid air purifiers.

The healing stats fluctuated briefly before returning to their initial state.

Kurov stirred the solution with a glass rod until the black particles dissolved entirely, then allowed the spinning water's surface to settle naturally.

After five minutes, the solution separated into a purple oily substance at the top, white flocculent material at the bottom, and transparent water in between.

Kurov used a fine mesh to retrieve the purple substance, placing it into a nearby glass vessel.

Once removed from the water's surface, it resembled a pool of jelly—a residue of the alchemical process, the raw material that hadn't undergone transformation. Post-separation treatment could retrieve Willow Yellow and Moth Blue from it.

The white flocculent substance was the product of this alchemy.

Kurov poured the substance from the glass vessel through a funnel, allowing it to flow steadily through three layers of mesh.

Subsequently, using tweezers, Kurov evenly distributed portions onto the three meshes, presenting the students with equal shares of the white flocculent substance.

"According to the identification methods in 'Isolation of Toxins,' see what effects it holds," Kurov said as he removed his gloves.

Xia Zuo headed to a shelf, grabbing a mask—a crucial safety measure against potential toxins entering the eyes, mouth, or nose.

Mason and Brandon, initially caught off guard, hastily reached for masks, recalling the safety guidelines outlined in 'Isolation of Toxins.'

Observing their varied reactions, Kurov intentionally omitted mentioning the masks, using this detail to discern their characters.

Pretending to consult 'Isolation of Toxins,' Xia Zuo, alongside Mason and Brandon, flipped through their respective books.

In fact, when Kurov crafted the composite toxin earlier, Xia Zuo had used detection abilities to examine the white flocculent substance.

"Unknown toxin, a compound created from Willow Yellow and Moth Blue. Expected effects: spasms and constriction of nasal and throat passages. If subjected to dual toxin effects leading to asphyxiation, a deduction of 30 health points per minute."

With the assistance of detection abilities, no mental effort, assessment, or observation was required. Simply using the skill unveiled the composite toxin's effects.

The combination of detection abilities and knowledge storage was indeed a perfect match for toxin identification!

Realizing this, Xia Zuo's hands trembled with excitement, masked by the act of searching for alchemical instruments, suppressing the thrill within.

While calming his excitement, Xia Zuo reviewed the identification methods from the book.

The approach for identifying the composite toxin mirrored that of basic toxins—several alchemical operations to test various effects. Following 'Isolation of Toxins' meticulously made the testing of the white flocculent substance straightforward, without any need for innovation or overthinking.

Given it was their first attempt, the three freshmen naturally made minor mistakes.

Kurov turned a blind eye to these harmless errors, and they worked diligently until around 5 PM, nearing dinner time, to complete the identification.

Finally, three standardized identification reports lay on the alchemy table.

Mason and Brandon filled their reports with numerous speculations.

To conceal personal anomalies, Xia Zuo fabricated logical conjectures. The only correct identification result was placed at the top of his report.

Kurov reviewed the reports, instructing the students to store the white flocculent substance back into poison bottles and tidy up the alchemy chamber.

Five minutes later.

Kurov smiled, neatly organizing the three reports into a drawer on his desk.

"Excellent. Though the process had its twists, you've all roughly identified White Palate."

He retrieved a hefty tome from the desk, inviting the students to examine a specific page within—'Aggregation of Toxins,' a companion to 'Isolation of Toxins,' detailing the production of compound toxins.

Xia Zuo swiftly scanned the page, mentally noting crucial information about White Palate.

When using detection abilities again on the white flocculent substance, the name section accurately displayed "White Palate," no longer 'unknown toxin.'
