He wondered what he would do if the Supreme Kings came his way, but fortunately, the principal starting speaking before they could approach him. After a few crackling sounds resembling cicadas from the speaker, the sound of microphone tests echoed, drawing the students' attention to the stage.
"Hello, new students of Choaegang High School. Did you sleep well last night?"
"Yes!"
This wasn't some elementary school field trip. Being seventeen in mind but twenty-three alone felt slightly off. Amidst the booming responses, Sihyun, who certainly couldn't claim to have slept well, awaited the continuation. He wanted to hurry through the imprinting or whatever it was and retreat into the classroom.
"Today, as announced, we will proceed with class imprints. If you go to the teachers holding signs with your class written on them at the playground, the teachers assigned to each class will assist with the imprinting. Of course, there might be exceptions for students whose classes have not yet been determined."
"..."
As the principal mentioned exceptions while everything seemed smooth, Sihyun chewed his lip, expecting the words that followed from the principal.
"Students Kang Sihyun and Lee Hamin. The imprinting process will differ for both of you compared to others. Hamin, being a dual-class, can choose the class he desires. However, Sihyun will need to imprint a new class, so a separate teacher will be assigned to him."
"I'm a dual-class too." It was better to be hit with the truth first, but since the word "dual" didn't come out, he remained silent, prompting a sly smile from the principal as he looked at Sihyun. It was a subtly pleased expression.
"Well then, let's proceed with the imprinting right away. Students, please follow the teachers' instructions to the playground!"
As the speech concluded, the teachers standing on either side swiftly began guiding the students. When a teacher with her hair tied in a single strand approached him, Sihyun exchanged a glance with Haru and bid farewell before meeting the teacher's gaze.
"You're Kang Sihyun, the new class student, right?"
He nodded in response. The teacher guiding Sihyun to the playground continued the conversation with a cheerful voice.
"At this point, it's quite rare for a new class to emerge, so it's quite an honor for Sihyun to be designated as a 'New Class.' It's been a good ten years since the emergence of Awakened Individuals, and it seems like all the classes have been discovered. So, Sihyun being a 'New Class' after four years is significant."
"Oh, I see..."
Despite the teacher's proud words, Sihyun didn't feel particularly thrilled. Among the many abilities, why did it have to be 'Copy'? Why did that have to be his sub-protagonist role? As he pondered that, numerous tents erected on the playground entered his sight.
"New Class Awakened individuals typically realize their abilities within three days from the tester's response. Some suddenly realize it at some point, while others discover it in their dreams. The methods of realization vary. Did it happen like that for Sihyun?"
"Yeah, well... in a dream."
More accurately, someone who appeared in the dream had given him one-on-one lessons. That much didn't need to be mentioned. He worried about what would happen if he didn't know his ability, but luckily, it turned out fine. The teacher clapped and led Sihyun into an empty tent. Unlike the other tents with teachers holding signs, this one was empty, with no one guarding it.
As Sihyun reached the tent and sat on the provided chair, the teacher, who had disappeared to fetch a registration machine, appeared shortly with a machine resembling a modification tool. It looked similar yet different from the tester.
"Raise your hand as you did during the class test but recall your class ability. The registration machine will take care of the rest."
He thought it would involve a more complex procedure, but it was simpler than expected. Was this the power of 21st-century Inso Science? Sihyun raised his hand above the modification tool, fascinated by the seemingly advanced device.
"Currently displayed is a window visible only to Sihyun. It's configured to be seen only by the registration subject."
"Ah..."
Bewildered, Sihyun gazed at the holographic window before him. 'Registering the class...' was displayed. Thinking about the Copy ability he showed, a 'loading' indication appeared above the hologram window. It was surprisingly fascinating how things changed just by thinking about them.
After about three minutes, the screen, which had been drawing a continuous circle, changed.
[Class Name: Copy]
Skill: Adaptive Singular Skill
Detailed Description: Can copy one of the skills from another class 100%. However, the skill can only be copied if the user has directly witnessed it with their own eyes, and it is limited to three times a day.
Duration: From using the Copy ability, lasts for 10 minutes.
Cooldown: Can recopy a skill after 15 days from the first copy. Otherwise, no separate cooldown exists.
Other: Ignores the mana or health consumption when using the copied skill.
"Wow."
Uttering a brief and simple exclamation at the information about his skill that popped up, Sihyun glanced through the window with a fascinated gaze. The concise and accurate description also recorded information he hadn't mentioned.
How is this possible?
As he stared at the modification tool, wondering if it emitted some specific waves, the teacher, who had been watching Sihyun with an assured expression, approached closer, smiling lightly.
"Is it done?"
"Yes."
"Would you like to say 'imprint'?"
"....?"
This wasn't some magical girl anime. Could simply uttering 'imprint' to a machine make it an imprint? Sihyun hesitated but then quietly muttered 'imprint.' As he did, a beam of light emitted from the registration machine and enveloped Sihyun.
Suddenly, as the unexpected light flashed, Sihyun, now Kang Sihyun, widened his eyes as information about the skill he had seen a little while ago was inputted into his mind. Scenes from the dream where Kang Sihyun had displayed it played back in his head, as if specifically demonstrating what Copy could do.
The light faded, and his mind quieted. Sihyun blinked in puzzlement at the strange phenomenon.
"It's over. Simpler than you thought, right?"
"…Yes."
It was almost unbelievably straightforward. Sihyun, who now wondered if this was turning into some magical girl storyline, looked at the crystal ball, narrowing his eyebrows, trying to categorize the genre of Inso he'd entered.
From fantasy to magical girls, and now, even a fusion with my own storyline...
This amalgamation of Inso in Sihyun's life was entirely new.
"As this is a new class, the Awakening Center will contact you later to guide you further. You'll likely need to go through an interview. We'll need to know the name of your class and a rough idea of your abilities."
"Oh, okay."
Nodding, Sihyun was asked by the instructor, who mentioned the need to confirm the location of the Awakening Mark. Sihyun, lips sealed, hesitated upon this query. Maybe they could quietly move past this, considering they hadn't specifically asked about his class.
What to do?
Sihyun, who secretly thought he could conceal being a Dual-Class, pursed his lips and glanced around, contemplating. He didn't want to be found out. If it's this much trouble already, revealing Dual-Class would only make things worse. Hoping it would end with just Copy, he remained silent. Misinterpreting something, the instructor covered their mouth with their hand.
"Oh my, is it in a hard-to-disclose spot? Should I call another instructor?"
"Huh?"
Surprised by the absurd suggestion, Sihyun narrowed his eyes at the instructor, who chuckled, mentioning that sometimes marks appeared in odd places. Sihyun squinted in response, bewildered by the absurd misunderstanding. The teacher smiled knowingly. It seemed inevitable to avoid this situation.
"…It's on my neck."
Although Sihyun considered deceiving about the mark's location, those who knew already knew from Daun's announcement during the entrance ceremony. After a few conflicts, resigned, Sihyun closed his eyes and lifted his hair. Approaching, the instructor checked the clear mark on Sihyun's pale neck.
"Um…"
Did the registration device malfunction...?
The voice of the registration machine, not changing but even issuing a confirmation, resonated throughout the tent. Wide-eyed, the teacher turned to Sihyun. A sense of impending doom enveloped Sihyun.
Surely not...
"Sihyun, you..."
So stunned that even the murmurs of students ceased, Sihyun, avoiding the teacher's gaze, tensed up like a defendant awaiting a verdict.
"…Awakened with the specific mark of that class."
[This awakened individual has already completed the mark for that class.]
"……."
Even the machine's voice affirming the conclusion echoed through the tent. Sihyun, biting his lip, reluctantly opened his mouth as if truly disliking it.
"…The mark."
"Are you a Dual-Class?!"
A Dual-Class? A Dual-Class?!
"……."
Was the teacher equipped with a megaphone?
So loudly that it echoed across the sports field, the teacher's voice reverberated not once, but twice. It resonated excessively, almost excessively.
"……."
Even if the sound of cawing crows filled the air, the following silence was so profound that it wouldn't have seemed unusual. Then, as if on cue, everyone collectively shattered the silence.
"What―?!"
Amazement erupted from all directions without distinction of position or occupation. Sihyun, finding himself the center of attention for the second time in a situation like this, buried his face in his hands, wishing he could disappear. The embarrassment made his ears burn. Truly, Sihyun wished he could vanish into thin air.
