A single statement during broad daylight directly roped Meng Qian into the mix.
Meng Qian furrowed his brows in irritation. "What do you mean by that?"
He was merely Jiang Yang's cousin, not a blood brother. Meng Qian had never regarded Jiang He seriously from the start. After all, Jiang He relied on Jiang Yang even for work. Putting aside his identity as Jiang Yang's cousin, who would bother with him?
But Jiang He's insults irked Meng Qian. Rather than getting mad, Jiang Yang, instead, held Meng Qian's hand to pacify him, attempting to calm him down while enduring Jiang He's rudeness.
"Qin Yi Ran has fired you, I know that," Jiang Yang stated calmly. "Now that she's regained control of the Qin Corporation, she certainly can't tolerate anyone from the Jiang family under her nose."
Jiang He snorted coldly, slumping on the couch. He touched the bruise on his lip with his fingers. The pain made him furrow his brow in frustration. "Since you know, solve it for me quickly. Otherwise, arrange a position for me at Jiang's company similar to what I had at Qin's," he said.
Meng Qian scoffed. Jiang He had such thick skin. Did he think Jiang's was just anything? Wanting to be Jiang's CEO, did he have the capability?
"Even if I arrange it, do you think Father would agree?" Jiang Yang's impatience was starting to show.
Jiang He fell briefly silent. He knew well that if he were in Jiang's, regardless of the main corporation or its subsidiaries, Jiang Yang giving him a high-ranking position would surely give Jiang Zhaolin a heart attack. Otherwise, he wouldn't have traveled so far to become the CEO at Qin's.
"Then reinstate my position at Qin's. Even if it's just a figurehead, as long as I get dividends. With your shares at Qin's, that shouldn't be hard, right?" Jiang He extended his arm, pulling tissues to dab at the blood on his face, gritting his teeth in pain.
He used his impatience to mask his anxiety. He had planned to visit Jiang Yang yesterday, but he was just out of the Jiang estate for a short while before being seized. Truth be told, he didn't know who had taken him. He was knocked unconscious and woke up blindfolded, with no communication. Faintly, he sensed other wails around him, obviously more than just himself captured. Then, that night passed like that, being beaten with sticks before being released.
In Moon City, everyone knew the relationship between him, Jiang He, and Jiang Yang. Who dared to capture him? After much thought, it could only be someone from the casino...
Jiang He needed money. Despite being from the peripheral branch of the Jiang family, neither Jiang Yang nor Jiang Zhaolin would give him any. He absolutely couldn't lose this golden opportunity; otherwise, his life would be over.
"I can't meddle with Qin's," Jiang Yang promptly rejected Jiang He's proposal. "Do you know why Qin Yi Ran was able to regain control?"
Jiang He glared at him coldly. "I'm not interested."
Jiang Yang slammed the pen on the table. "It's Mr. Huo who helped her. Mr. Huo acquired over 49% of Qin's shares and gifted them all to Qin Yi Ran for free. Not only did he help her regain control of Qin's, but he also funded Gu Xueying for the reclamation project in Lugang. Do I need to spell out what that means?"
Jiang He was unfamiliar with the business world, but he knew Jiang Yang feared Huo Qing. After all, Huo Qing was someone Jiang Yang himself relied upon. With Huo Qing involved in Qin's affairs, Jiang He knew Jiang Yang wouldn't help him.
"What do you mean then?" Jiang He tossed the blood-soaked tissues aside. "This doesn't work, that doesn't work. Jiang Yang, don't push me, otherwise, I'll bring up the incident from twelve years ago to the media. Let's see how you survive in Moon City! If I'm going down, we're all going down together!"
Jiang Yang frowned. He was well aware that barefoot people weren't afraid of those wearing shoes.
"What happened twelve years ago?" Meng Qian sensed a clue and inquired.
"Oh, you don't know the dirty deeds your fiancé has done?" Jiang He laughed.
"Jiang He!" Jiang Yang reprimanded.
Jiang He, already furious, was unwilling to obey Jiang Yang's command. He tirelessly recounted the scandal from twelve years ago, treating it as a warning to Jiang Yang about the severe consequences if he sold the story to the media. "Twelve years ago, to force Yan Su to leave the country, Jiang Yang even went as far as breaking his own hand to stage a hero saving the beauty act. Why do you think Yan Su, a mere doctor, insisted on ruining Jiang Yang upon returning to the country? It's because Jiang Yang had people ambush him in a bar, nearly subjecting him to a beating! Jiang Yang, I still have those photos; if you don't want the world to know about this..."
"What do you want?" Meng Qian interrupted, not shocked by this revelation but instead calmly trying to resolve it.
He reacted swiftly. Just as Jiang He finished speaking, Meng Qian realized the gravity of the situation. If this incident came to light, both he and Jiang Yang would suffer. They absolutely couldn't let this affect Jiang Yang.
"It seems you're a smart person. You're not as naive as you usually appear," Jiang He sneered twice and continued, "Since Jiang Yang can't arrange my position now, how about we settle this once and for all? I want a billion."
"You're really asking for a lion's share," Meng Qian clenched his fists.
Jiang He shrugged. "You both need to understand, if this leaks out, Jiang Yang would lose way more than a billion. Once the money's in my hands, I'll vanish. I won't reappear. How profitable."
Jiang Yang breathed deeply, suppressing his anger. "Deal."
Jiang He was overjoyed. Jiang Yang promised to give him the money the next day and impatiently sent him away.
Meng Qian, with his hand pressed on the desk, anxiously remarked, "Jiang He is like a bottomless pit. Once he gets the money, he'll keep coming back for more. He'll drag you down sooner or later!"
"I know, but is there any other way? I did make a mistake back then; I should pay the price for it," Jiang Yang reassuredly patted Meng Qian's hand.
He seemed somewhat despondent. Meng Qian felt immense pity. After a moment of silence, suddenly, he said sternly, "Then let him disappear like Yan Yu. Anyway, killing one or two, it's all the same. For Yan Yu's case, a scapegoat has been found, we can find another one now."
"Will it implicate you?" Jiang Yang expressed concern verbally but didn't stop Meng Qian's actions.
"No, it won't. For so many years, the police have been trying
to throw Fang Ge into prison, but they've failed," Meng Qian smiled and dialed a number.
They didn't notice a small dark green shadow flicker in the top left corner of Jiang Yang's computer.
Nie Jia was half-lying on the bed with a computer on his lap. He lightly tapped the keyboard twice, stopped the monitoring, and swiftly erased any traces of his intrusion into Jiang Yang's computer.
Sounds of water gushed from the bathroom; Huo Qing was showering. Nie Jia had long lost the resentment he initially felt, just lightly sneering before closing the laptop and tossing it aside.
Meng Qian and Jiang Yang represented absolute righteousness and justice in this world.
Jiang Yang might have been forgiven for his mistakes as a youth, but now, did he think the price he should pay was giving a billion to his accomplice, Jiang He? As for Meng Qian, killing seemed as casual as eating, devoid of any humanity. Was this what they deemed as righteousness?
These two were just too ludicrous.
This world was a string of fabricated data concocted by the Public Prosecution Department. They had been relentlessly attempting to convict him. But the sense of justice they displayed appeared immensely foolish to Nie Jia!
[System, Mr. Meng Qian has informed Mr. Fang Yan that Jiang He will be killed tonight.] The system reminded Nie Jia.
"Understood," Nie Jia replied calmly.
[He's of no use to you anymore?] The system inquired.
"He has fulfilled his usefulness, but even in death, he might still serve a purpose. I don't want to be the orchestrator behind the scenes. Whether he survives or not depends on his luck," Nie Jia chuckled lightly.
The system laughed awkwardly. The Director wanted it to assist Mr. Nie Jia, but it seemed Mr. Nie Jia could handle everything by himself. It was entirely useless...
"Who are you talking to?" Huo Qing emerged from the bathroom, drying his hair.
The system silently raised its hand.
Nie Jia looked up and couldn't help but pause. Huo Qing, clad only in a towel around his waist, water droplets trickling down his broad and muscular chest, cascading along the lines of his abdomen, presented Nie Jia with a stunningly attractive physique.
"No one..." Nie Jia murmured.
Huo Qing smirked, walked over, and tossed a towel to Nie Jia, ruffling his hair. "Help me dry my hair."
Nie Jia gazed at the scratch marks on Huo Qing's robust and broad back, his face suddenly heating up, his heart racing slightly. He softly acknowledged and proceeded to dry Huo Qing's hair haphazardly, much like drying a large dog.
