The Invasion Day - Chapter 5

This situation is simply maddening!

Prepared isolation and being locked inside without knowing what's happening outside are two different situations. Some people immediately went crazy, trying to break down the unit door as if that would solve anything.

Unfortunately, the outer door was sealed tightly. Without professional tools, breaking it from the inside was impossible. The first and second floors were all equipped with protective nets. The sturdy material that initially pleased the residents now filled them with despair.

"Go from the third floor! Lower a strip of paper from the window on the third floor!" someone suggested.

So, this group of people without a clear plan rushed to the third floor. However, when they arrived, they were greeted by a shocking scene. Blood was everywhere on the third floor, people lay in disarray in the hallway, and some doors were wide open. All of them were dead, and the murderer stood there calmly, holding a blood-stained machete.

Fu Shiwu, standing at a distance, easily recognized the man who had been shouting like a maniac.

Though he wasn't shouting loudly now, his face carried a crazed calmness that was even more chilling.

"Is... is this your doing?" the person who suggested climbing through the window asked, their voice trembling.

"They concealed patients in their homes. Can't blame me for not being polite to them," the man replied.

"Guan Liangbi, are you insane?!" someone who knew him couldn't believe it. "There's no need to kill everyone!"

"They will eventually turn into zombies, and zombies eat people," Guan Liangbi said seriously.

"Are you kidding..." the person was speechless. Killing people just because they might turn into zombies?

"I know, there are still patients inside the building. If you honestly hand them over now, their families won't be harmed," Guan Liangbi revealed a dangerously crazy smile.

"Why hand them over?... Are you going to kill them too?" the person exclaimed.

"I am doing it for everyone's safety," he looked at the person with incomprehension, as if not understanding what was wrong. "This way, we won't get bitten by zombies."

"You're truly insane! No one will turn into zombies!" the one suggesting climbing through the window shouted, "They're just sick!"

"I know! After they die from illness and fever, they will turn into zombies. So, we need to act before they become zombies! But even if they die from illness, it's okay. Just chop the bodies into pieces!" Guan Liangbi confidently declared, "Don't worry, I'll ensure everyone's safety, as long as you cooperate."

Who would dare to cooperate with him?

This was clearly a delusional man immersed in his own world!

Even during the rumored end of the world in 2012, there weren't crazed murderers killing people everywhere. Unexpectedly, there was one in their building!

Even if you read a lot of novels, watch a lot of TV dramas, a normal person wouldn't think that an unknown illness would definitely be a zombie virus. If it were, the hospitals would have been overrun by now!

Faced with a mentally unstable delusional killer, this group of unarmed people didn't dare to take risks and could only choose to temporarily retreat.

"Go back to your homes," the person who called out Guan Liangbi's name said, "Lock the doors at home, and men, grab weapons, whether it's a kitchen knife or a stick, we must restrain Guan Liangbi!"

Leaving such an unpredictable time bomb that could endanger anyone's life at any moment.

Fu Shiwu returned home, searching for suitable weapons. After searching, he could only find a watermelon knife from the kitchen. Waving it a few times, looking at his slender arms and legs, Fu Shiwu still summoned the courage to go out.

Now he didn't dare to take the elevator. Those people scattered on various floors, who knows when they'll reach the third floor!

Holding his breath, Fu Shiwu cautiously descended to the third floor. He looked out from the emergency exit, but there was no sign of Guan Liangbi.

Not knowing where he went, Fu Shiwu didn't dare to go alone into the corridors on the third floor and had to return the same way.

A mental killer was clearly presented for everyone's sense of security, but now that killer was nowhere to be found, making people more anxious.

Due to the high tension and stress, Fu Shiwu's heartbeat accelerated, his breathing became rapid, and he could even hear his heavy breathing.

No one in the staircase, but he felt as if there were ghosts chasing him from behind, forcing him to quicken his pace.

"Why are you alone?" a voice suddenly sounded.

"Ah!" Fu Shiwu exclaimed.

"What's with the surprise!" the person said unkindly.

"It's you," Fu Shiwu looked at the man who suggested climbing through the window.

"Just you? Where are the others?" the man held a long stick with a fruit knife tied to the top.

"I don't know, didn't see anyone else," Fu Shiwu wiped his sweat.

"A group of cowards! They must be too scared to come out," the man spat and disdainfully said, "Let's go to our homes."

Fu Shiwu slightly innocent. Did he have such low visibility?

However, Fu Shiwu had no idea how to comfort the obviously frightened soul of the other person. He could only stare at him over his glasses, attempting to apologize with his eyes.

Unfortunately, it seemed to have little effect. The man avoided eye contact, unable to confront him.

Without giving them time for introductions, the man pointed, "Fu Shiwu, this is Liao Ke. Let's go."

"I know, we just called that person's name. He lives there. As for the others, I think they're too scared. Probably only that person can handle it," Wang Ziping led him towards the floor.

When they arrived at a door, Wang Ziping rang the doorbell.

"Who is it?" a vigilant voice came from inside.

"It's me, Wang Ziping from the 7th floor," Wang Ziping said.

The safety latch inside was opened, and the door opened.

The person had a helmet on his head and, despite the heat, was wearing a down jacket!

"How did you find your way here?" the person extended his head and glanced.

"Half a day without anyone coming, I thought you were too scared to come," Wang Ziping looked at his equipment and nodded, "Yours is good, at least you have some defense."

"I'm looking for my crossbow arrows!" the person said without courtesy.

"Do you know how to shoot arrows?" Wang Ziping's eyes lit up.

"No, it's my collection. But aiming should be enough to shoot him down," the person raised the hand crossbow.

The small crossbow had already been loaded, and the sharp arrowhead glittered.

"This is a contraband, you know?" Wang Ziping clicked his tongue, "This arrowhead is sharp."

"A collector's item," the person came out and reminded the people inside to lock the door, "Let's go."

Fully armed with the crossbow, he only noticed when he turned around that Fu Shiwu, holding a watermelon knife and wearing a white shirt and shorts, looked like he was here for a barbecue. The person couldn't help but sneer.

Fu Shiwu's face reddened. He wished he had put on a thicker jacket.

Wang Ziping explained, "Don't worry, he's just a burden. Let's go."

When the emergency department sent them food, they also brought a small portion of daily necessities, and among them was a box of clothes.

Without thinking much, they grabbed a box, but who would have expected the third floor to turn into a ghost house?

People like Fu Shiwu, who only wore one layer of clothing, were cold enough to regret it.

However, thinking about the current situation, the chills on his back were not from the cold.

As they descended to the first floor, they didn't see any traces of the murderer.

"Where is everyone?" Wang Ziping asked.

"How should I know," the person glanced at Fu Shiwu, "Don't expect too much from me, I just want to find a safe place to hide."

"I don't think that's a good idea," Wang Ziping said, "If everyone hides in their rooms, it'll be easy for him to pick us off one by one."

"Then what do you suggest?" the person was disdainful.

"Be proactive. He said he's trying to protect us, right? Then let's try to reason with him," Wang Ziping suggested.

"You want to reason with a lunatic? Good luck with that," the person laughed mockingly.

"At least it's better than hiding and waiting to die," Wang Ziping retorted.

"Suit yourself," the person shrugged and turned to Fu Shiwu, "Kid, don't get in the way."

Fu Shiwu felt a bit useless but nodded, holding the watermelon knife tightly.

The three moved cautiously through the building, checking each floor for any sign of the murderer. However, they found nothing. It seemed like Guan Liangbi had vanished into thin air.

Their search led them back to the ground floor, where they spotted a few other residents who seemed just as lost and scared.

"Did you find him?" one of them asked.

"No, he's nowhere to be seen," Wang Ziping replied.

"What should we do now?" another person inquired anxiously.

"Should we call the police?" Fu Shiwu suggested timidly.

"They won't be able to get in," someone else chimed in. "The building is sealed, remember?"

Panic and uncertainty hung thickly in the air. The group seemed to be at a loss about their next course of action.

Amidst the chaos, a distant, echoing sound caught their attention—a voice from the loudspeaker.

"Attention residents, this is the building management. Please remain calm and stay in your units. Help is on the way. We are working to resolve the situation."

Hope flickered in their eyes upon hearing this, but it was quickly overshadowed by the lingering fear of the unknown. The voice over the loudspeaker wasn't enough to ease their anxiety.

They glanced at each other, unsure of whether to trust the message or continue seeking a solution on their own. It was a chilling realization that their fate hung in the balance, teetering between safety and peril.
