I'd love to help with the translation! Let's start:
Fu Shiwu, Tang Xuhai, Wen Zhaoming, Miao Jia, Liao Ke, Wang Ziping, Ma Dong, Olande, Wu Shan, Liu Peiqi, Wang Dan, Prince Ping, Liu Zhao, Horn Ting
The corn here grew right in the middle, and after its mutation, it seemed to consider this cornfield its forbidden territory. When Wang Dan and Liu Peiqi dared to intrude, the corn king got furious and launched an "attack"!
It sprayed out corn kernels like a rain of bullets. Wang Dan and Liu Peiqi were astonished and amused. Wasn't this straightforwardly providing them with food?!
They were ecstatic, shouting to invite others to witness the novelty.
As they described the corn king's majestic appearance, Tang Xuhai and Fu Shiwu returned.
Tang Xuhai found it incredibly novel. Who would have thought their encounter with the first mutated plant would be corn? He turned and, placing his hand on Fu Shiwu's shoulder, said, "Let's go, have a look."
Fu Shiwu hesitated for a moment, then nodded, and they headed towards the cornfield.
The others breathed a sigh of relief once they were gone.
Ma Dong, feeling a bit shaken, remarked, "Mr. Fu can be quite intimidating when he gets serious."
While he sighed, Horn Ting and Liu Zhao felt it wasn't intimidation but rather an overwhelming aura. It wasn't just about their status; there was a mysterious mental strength.
Only someone accustomed to giving orders or a seasoned leader could possess such an imposing demeanor. Yet, Fu Shiwu didn't seem like someone who should hold such a high position, which raised suspicions.
Horn Ting even began recalling powerful families in the country, trying to guess Fu Shiwu's background.
Liu Zhao wasn't as contemplative. He'd only encountered provincial officials or CEOs before, and Fu Shiwu felt somewhat similar yet different.
But he couldn't pinpoint the difference.
Meanwhile, Wang Dan, Olande, Liu Peiqi, and Wu Shan, unconcerned, followed behind without much thought.
Unaware of the impression he'd left due to his inadvertent display of authority, Fu Shiwu triggered different speculations among the group, each based on their backgrounds.
He was simply being nudged forward by Tang Xuhai, deeply intrigued by the peculiar plant.
In the lush cornfield, the straight stalks with narrow, wavy-edged leaves and prominent veins seemed ordinary. The fully grown corn stood 2-3 meters tall, exceptionally dense. It was easy to miss the anomaly when standing amidst such thick growth.
However, being attentive now, they spotted a taller corn stalk swaying slightly in the center of the field.
"Is that the one?" squinted Tang Xuhai.
Containing their excitement, Liu Peiqi nodded, "Yes, that's the one. Once you approach the field, it attacks."
"Oh? I'd love to see that," Tang Xuhai said, eager to try.
As he cautiously stepped into the field, everyone held their breath.
But before he got near, the corn king attacked, shaking its leaves and launching corn kernels like projectiles.
"Seriously?!" Tang Xuhai shielded himself, surprised by the force of the corn king's assault.
Stepping back, he looked incredulously at the swaying corn proudly showering him with kernels.
"Just a corn, yet so audacious!" he muttered through gritted teeth.
Fu Shiwu couldn't help but chuckle. It was amusing to see Tang Xuhai dealing with the corn.
"I won't let this slide!" Tang Xuhai, now irritated, drew the knife from his belt and charged at the cornfield.
The corn king, not waiting for him to approach, opened its husks, firing kernels like artillery rounds.
Moreover, the surrounding corn followed suit, launching a massive barrage, leaving Tang Xuhai to fend for himself against the relentless assault.
Miao Jia, pushing Wen Zhaoming, arrived, eyes wide, murmuring, "It's Plants vs. Zombies."
The corn massed like an army against one person, leaving Tang Xuhai in a pitiable situation.
Unable to contain himself, Fu Shiwu realized that even though it was corn, getting bombarded hurt.
He hurried over to Tang Xuhai's aid.
Seeing this, Wang Dan and Liu Peiqi joined in.
Tang Xuhai, bombarded and struggling to hold his head up, managed, "Fu Shiwu."
"Why are you here?" Tang Xuhai looked uncomfortable.
"I'm helping you find that corn," Fu Shiwu replied seriously.
Once inside the field, where corn towered over them, directions became unclear. Fu Shiwu, akin to GPS, had an aerial view ability.
"Okay, guide me from behind," Tang Xuhai said, blocking the incoming corn kernels, following Fu Shiwu's lead.
Following closely, Fu Shiwu corrected Tang Xuhai's course when needed.
With Fu Shiwu's guidance, Tang Xuhai bulldozed through the corn, finally reaching the mutated corn's location.
With a swift strike, Tang Xuhai severed the taller corn stalk.
The incessant launching ceased, and the stray kernels fell, damaging several corn leaves.
"This corn's quite something," Fu Shiwu remarked, his face and body also marked by the assault.
Looking at Tang Xuhai, who had taken the brunt of the attack, Fu Shiwu couldn't help but notice the deep purple marks on his arms.
"You're bruised," Fu Shiwu frowned, observing Tang Xuhai's arms.
"Damn, didn't expect corn to be this resilient," Tang Xuhai grimaced, inspecting the large reddish-purple patch.
"Let's get some ointment when we return," Fu Shiwu remembered the spray in Tang Xuhai's backpack.
"Okay," Tang Xuhai agreed.
From behind, Wang Dan and Liu Peiqi's voices reached them. Tang Xuhai responded, his mood not great.
"This corn stalk's pretty thick," commented Liu Peiqi, examining the cut corn king.
Squeezing in, Wang Dan picked up a severed stalk, tilted his head, and remarked, "The mutated cow's meat was delicious; wonder how this corn tastes?"
"No idea," Tang Xuhai replied bluntly. "All that's left is stalks; you can try them."
Seeing Tang Xuhai's sour expression, Wang Dan didn't dare say anything, just grinning at Liu Peiqi when Tang Xuhai turned away.
Fu Shiwu, in contemplation, suggested, "The mutated cow's meat was a mutation; this corn might be similar."
Tang Xuhai, not feeling too well, questioned him, "So, you want to taste the corn that grows from these seeds?"
The scattered kernels, once launched, were now hard to find.
"I don't want to taste it. I just..." Fu Shiwu glanced at Liu Peiqi.
Liu Peiqi looked puzzled.
"Aren't plant-based ability users capable of cultivating plants from seeds?" Fu Shiwu asked earnestly. "If Liu Peiqi cultivates corn from these seeds, would it
also have attacking capabilities?"
Hearing this, Liu Peiqi's eyes lit up. "Exactly! It might just work like that! I'd have an attack ability!"
It was something he'd dreamt of!
Water and wood abilities were seen as limited, only aiding with water and food. They felt inferior to attack-based abilities.
Horn Ting, having turned water arrows into high-pressure water guns, constantly pondered how to improve his wood-based ability but hadn't found a breakthrough.
Wood abilities relied on seed development for their ultimate attack capabilities.
"Hmm..." Tang Xuhai thought for a moment, nodding. "Let's give it a try."
Looking around, Wang Dan questioned, "But how do we find it?"
The initial projectiles were lost amidst the dense corn, making it difficult to locate.
"Go back to where you were first attacked, where the corn attacked me," Tang Xuhai suggested. "Those scattered kernels should be from its main body."
The four were deeply interested, leaving the fallen corn king and swiftly departing.
Finally, at that spot, they collected less than 300 kernels.
"These should be from the corn's main body," Tang Xuhai affirmed.
Initially, the corn king shot kernels from its main body; later, it fired whole corn stalks. Therefore, the scattered kernels must be from its body.
Miao Jia joined in, placing about twenty kernels in Liu Peiqi's hands regrettably. "Each corn has hundreds of kernels, and these are only half of them."
"We have enough," Liu Peiqi said contentedly. "If the cultivated corn has attacking abilities, that's the ideal result. Two hundred kernels should suffice. Collecting more won't matter if the grown corn lacks this ability."
"Who says it won't matter? At least, we can eat them," Wang Dan remarked, placing the last few kernels in his hand.
Struggling to hold all the kernels, Liu Peiqi stuffed the ones he couldn't hold into his pockets.
