Tang Xuhai was a bit puzzled; in the past, when he had swelling and inflammation due to excessive exercise, he hadn't recovered this quickly, let alone the recent exacerbation of the injury.

However...

Tang Xuhai raised his head, looking at Fu Shiwu standing beside Wen Zhaoming, holding an injector and adding medicine powder into it. His eyes, reflected through the lenses, revealed a cold glint, carrying the aura of a ruthless and icy doctor-assassin.

Tang Xuhai massaged his temples. Despite this deceitful demeanor, was he simply pretending to treat him? Overdosing on antibiotics!!

By his own feeling, antibiotics were probably overused. Perhaps that's why the recovery was so swift.

But no matter how chaotic Fu Shiwu was, he had saved his life, and for that, Tang Xuhai was grateful!

"I can't believe I wasn't treated to death. I must have a tough life," Tang Xuhai murmured.

"What did you say?" Fu Shiwu couldn't hear clearly. He turned to ask Tang Xuhai, eyes glancing over.

Tang Xuhai's neck hairs stood, gesturing with his hand, "Nothing! How's Wen Zhaoming?"

Strange, although Fu Shiwu always seemed cold and indifferent before, was he not this terrifyingly daunting? Tang Xuhai wondered.

Fu Shiwu looked at Tang Xuhai with confusion, steering the conversation, "Doesn't look too good. We'll know after taking his temperature in a while."

After some time, Fu Shiwu checked Wen Zhaoming's temperature. Frowning, he said, "40 degrees. Still 40, no drop."

"Even when you said I had a fever for a day and a night before it started dropping, Wen Zhaoming should be fine," Tang Xuhai comforted.

"Let's hope so," Fu Shiwu sighed.

After checking Wen Zhaoming's temperature, he checked Tang Xuhai's, 39 degrees flat.

"At least down by 0.2 degrees," Fu Shiwu chuckled.

In this condition, Tang Xuhai couldn't do much except recuperate under Fu Shiwu's care.

Near the theater in the nearby residential area, monsters roamed freely, but this almost abandoned theater was deserted. The creatures, having passed by several times, had gained some understanding of human habitation conditions and simply walked away upon seeing the empty cars, not being intelligent enough to push an SUV and force open the gates.

This allowed Fu Shiwu and the others a chance to recuperate amid the perilous circumstances.

Several kilometers from the theater, the main street had become a battlefield due to a previous accident that had blocked the road, attracting numerous monsters. This thoroughfare was crucial for reaching the eastern suburbs; taking other routes meant lengthy detours. The military stationed at the warehouse had to dispatch personnel to clear the accident scene, leading to a prolonged three-day battle.

With the main road impassable, those heading towards the eastern suburbs were almost trapped. The remaining armed police and police officers protected the civilians through alleys and side streets, climbing buildings if they could and circumventing if they couldn't, making their difficult way toward the warehouse in the eastern suburbs.

"Bang! Bang! Bang!" Three gunshots echoed as a monster fell, writhing and then lying still.

The elite detectives who fired the shots heaved a sigh of relief. The men and women crouching on the rooftop, previously frozen in fear, quickly scrambled to the other side upon seeing the sudden demise of the monster.

Miao Jia, clutching a backpack containing vital electronics, stumbled and was escorted to the edge of the rooftop.

There's no path in this world until people create one. Miao Jia witnessed this live.

The rooftop they traversed was part of a large, old residential area, with no ladder to go up or down. These people, running for their lives, fearlessly jumped down.

Though not the first time Miao Jia had seen ordinary people's courageous acts during such times, it never failed to awe him.

He couldn't jump directly; it would damage his electronics!

Miao Jia hung by the rooftop's edge, slowly maneuvering down. Even though it was meant for bicycles or storage, it was still a two-meter drop, leaving his head above the rooftop, nowhere close to the ground.

His clothes, from all the movement, were crumpled, his shirt's hem pushed up, revealing fair skin.

After days of running around and climbing buildings today, his light blue summer police uniform was a mess, the shoulder patch missing.

His awkward and comical state amused the elite detectives who shot the monster. One of them kicked Miao Jia's arm resting on the edge, laughing and teasing, "With your skills, how did you graduate from the police academy? Did the examiner have blurred vision?"

"Bro, I'm the backbone of the tech department, okay?" Miao Jia lifted his chin, looking down at the detective, showing no intention to lend a hand. "I aced my written exams."

The elite detectives knew well that these technically adept personnel often excelled in their field exams but were terrible in physical fitness and marksmanship. Normally, these officers relied on the technical support provided by them and were willing to look after them. However, this wasn't the time to care for him, allowing him a leisurely descent.

The detective holstered his gun, sternly saying, "Even so, kid, you're still a cop. Can't you stop being so timid?"

Saying this, he squatted down, grabbed Miao Jia's arms, and pushed him off.

"Ahhhh!" Miao Jia screamed, landing on his feet and then falling onto his bottom.

Ignoring the pain in his buttocks, Miao Jia quickly checked his laptop bag, relieved to find no damage to the electronics.

"Don't dawdle, move quickly!" the elite detective urged.

Miao Jia briskly caught up with the crowd, surreptitiously sticking out his tongue. He attended the police academy and joined the force to openly display his computer talents. Physical training and combat skills were merely perfunctory for him. He managed to graduate due to the instructors' leniency. So, aside from not falling over, he considered himself fortunate.

"Watch out!!!"

"Enemy attack!"

"Help!!!"

The crowd erupted into chaos, but no one dared to run amok; they crouched down or lay flat, having experienced prior attacks where panicked running resulted in either getting killed by aliens or mistakenly injured by allies.

This time, no one cared if stray bullets hit those running in panic. If the aliens weren't eliminated soon, everyone could perish.

Several aliens charged from the front, and the automatic rifles of the armed police spat tongues of fire as shell casings tinkled to the ground.

Miao Jia lay prone, quickly drawing his own pistol from its holster.

He raised his head and fired at the attacking aliens.

"Bam! Bam! Bam!"

Miao Jia was stunned; the aliens were too swift for him to hit!

These seven aliens were the largest group they'd encountered. Miao Jia noticed most aliens usually acted alone. They only gathered when confronting a crowd exceeding their capacity. These creatures were remarkably intelligent; facing a large group, they'd evade and come back later instead of rushing in to die.

These aliens were probably heading to the major confrontation on the main road. Their group had encountered several smaller squads rushing in that direction.

Thanks to that battle, they managed to travel this far, but encountering these rushing alien squads might lead to their annihilation.

"Ah!!!"

The armed police roared in anger as an alien entwined around his neck, swiftly suffocating him. But before dying, he emptied his gun into the alien's belly, severely damaging its upper limbs.

"Monsters! Die!!!" His comrade, veins bulging, charged ferociously at the marauding aliens amidst the crowd's chaos, shooting at the alien's head in a wild burst.

People accidentally hit by stray bullets wailed in pain, and the remaining aliens sensed that these people holding strange items could easily harm them. They all surged towards these individuals.

Gradually, the numbers of police and armed officers escorting the civilians decreased.

Facing imminent danger, Miao Jia's palms sweated, forcing him to grip the gun tightly with both hands.

An alien snapped a policeman's head with cruelty, then turned its merciless gaze toward Miao Jia.

Miao Jia fired.

"Bam! Bam! Bam! Bam!"

Out of bullets!

Miao Jia panicked; despite firing so many shots, he hadn't hit anything.

"Move!" A surge of force pushed Miao Jia aside. The person behind him raised their gun, "Bam! Bam! Bam!" Three shots formed a triangular pattern flying towards the alien.

The alien's movement was too fast; it evaded two shots, and only one hit its body.

"Gah!!!" The alien shrieked sharply, swinging its arm-like tentacle.

"Brother!!!" Miao Jia screamed in shock.

The elite officer dodged to the side, firing another shot.

"Bam!!!"

The shot hit the alien's forehead, but its arm directly swept across the elite officer's neck, tearing off a large chunk of flesh.

The jugular vein was pierced, and the elite officer, barely able to move his throat, collapsed.

Miao Jia rushed to hold his falling body. He didn't know this person before, only called him "brother" sweetly to gain his favor. But now, this person had truly saved him, and tears uncontrollably streamed down Miao Jia's face.

"Brother, what should I do? There's so much blood!" Miao Jia used his hands to cover the incessant bleeding from the elite officer's neck, quickly staining his clothes with blood.

Seeing Miao Jia's terrified look, the elite officer wanted to laugh but managed to say with difficulty, "Take off your... uniform... run..."

He's still a kid... The elite officer sighed and swallowed his last breath.
