"!!!" Fu Shiwu's eyes widened in terror.

He suppressed the urge to scream. This creature was eating human brains! Eating brains!!!

He gagged—

Desperately covering his mouth, he refused to look again. As the monster focused on its meal, he swiftly darted between two buildings, racing towards the entrance of the Western Clinic.

"Huff—huff—huff—" Fu Shiwu pressed his pounding heart, gasping for air.

Dizziness swept over him, a result of overwhelming excitement.

Calm down! Stay calm!

Fu Shiwu bit his lip hard.

Tang Xuhai was counting on him for his life! No room for error now.

Wiping the sweat off his forehead with a damp sleeve, Fu Shiwu retrieved a versatile multitool from his backpack. Following Tang Xuhai's method, he used the pliers to manipulate the wire mesh on the clinic's window.

Fortunately, it was grid-shaped, thinner. A simple squeeze with the pliers and it yielded. If it were vertical bars, thicker, he'd have to saw through.

Fu Shiwu worked delicately, holding his breath. The pliers made a faint noise as the wire snapped.

He paused, waited for a moment, no sound, then went for the second cut.

He dared not look back at the aberration now. He prayed it savored its meal, allowing the others nearby to be enough to satisfy it.

Fu Shiwu's movements were precise and swift, no wasted action. He created a large enough opening in the window to allow passage for one person.

Removing the dismantled security grid, he pulled it aside. The window, left unlocked for ventilation in summer, easily slid open.

Fu Shiwu tossed his backpack inside, then with a push, hoisted himself through the window.

Swiftly entering the room, Fu Shiwu hastily closed the window.

The room held several beds, likely an infusion area. Grabbing his backpack, he swiftly moved to the adjacent room.

This clinic, transformed from a residential space, had a door on the balcony serving as an entrance. The hallway between the two rooms had been converted into a pharmacy.

Three shelves held medicines. Fu Shiwu dashed over and began rummaging.

"Sodium Chloride Injection! This one!" Fu Shiwu singled out the larger bottles and vials. Saline solution, the most frequently used fluid, was prominent and abundant.

There were both bags and bottles of saline in this Western Clinic. Fu Shiwu grabbed the bags and stuffed them into his backpack.

Opening a nearby drawer, he found sets of IV tubes and disposable syringes. He grabbed two handfuls of IV tubes and a few syringes, followed by a nearby batch of antipyretic needles, stuffing them into the bag.

While he was at it, he took some commonly used medications: cold medicine, anti-inflammatory drugs, stomach medicine, anti-diarrheal pills, blood pressure medication, heart pills... also disinfectant cotton swabs, band-aids, and thermometers.

Any more and he wouldn't be able to carry it. Reluctantly letting go, Fu Shiwu glanced at the shelves of medicines before leaving.

By the window, Fu Shiwu peered outside. He hadn't been in the clinic for more than five or six minutes; the creature probably hadn't finished eating yet. Fu Shiwu crawled out.

Looking at the gaping hole in the security window, Fu Shiwu felt remorseful. There was no way he could restore it.

Hugging the wall, he cautiously peeked between the two buildings, observing.

The aberration had finished its meal, squatting there, seemingly cleaning its mouth, completely satisfied and sluggish.

Fu Shiwu cursed inwardly. The creature was now heading in his direction; if he ran now, he'd definitely be spotted.

What to do?

A bead of sweat trickled down, stinging his eyes. Fu Shiwu blinked rapidly. He strained his mind but couldn't come up with a safe way to pass the creature's line of sight and retreat unharmed.

The immense pressure made Fu Shiwu increasingly uncomfortable. As the sun rose higher and the temperature soared, panic gnawed at him.

He had been out for an hour. Tang Xuhai was burning up; if he didn't return, he would die!

Gripping the straps of his backpack tightly, his hands ached. Tang Xuhai had given him this backpack.

Suddenly, Fu Shiwu calmed down. He couldn't panic. If he did, Tang Xuhai wouldn't stand a chance.

All he could do now was wait!

Wait for the right moment. Only if he escaped unscathed, could Tang Xuhai have a chance.

Fu Shiwu settled down, his breathing slowly steadying. His muscles tensed, ready for action, his heart beating vigorously, prepared to make a desperate move.

He listened intently, not needing to look, hearing the sounds from that side.

The weather was hot, the cicadas' chirps sporadic, sometimes strong, sometimes weak, not a breath of wind. He could hear the creature's mouthparts, sharp spikes of the jaws clashing, cleaning each other, creating a scraping sound.

It was incredible, barely audible, yet he heard it, unmistakably.

As he immersed himself in this incredible state, the sweat on his body evaporated, the sweating stopped, and his temperature maintained a moderate level.

At this moment, he suddenly heard a disturbance—a sound of shoe soles scraping against the ground and people arguing in low voices.

Someone's here?!

Fu Shiwu's heart leaped into his throat; he wanted to shout and alert them about the aberration here, but he couldn't!

Then, as if he didn't need to warn them, the revving sound of a motorcycle suddenly echoed through the unit's entrance. Such a loud noise, how could the aberration not hear it?

"Hiss!!!" The aberration emitted a hoarse cry and dashed out.

Now's the time!!!

Fu Shiwu sprang into action; he sprinted between the buildings, running at a breakneck speed! The motorcycle burst out, its powerful engine drowning out his footsteps completely.

Fu Shiwu dashed past the traditional Chinese medicine clinic, through this building, past the small restaurant at the entrance of the community.

Behind him echoed a piercing scream and loud curses, followed by the sound of a motorcycle crashing with a loud "clatter," then abruptly ceased screams and heightened, agonizing screams.

Only when the agonizing cries subsided did the sound of the motorcycle sliding to a stop on the ground cease.

Once again, silence descended. Fu Shiwu halted, pressing himself tightly against the wall of the restaurant outside the community. He trembled all over, tears streaming down uncontrollably.

I'm sorry! I'm sorry! I'm sorry!

Fu Shiwu silently apologized in his heart for being unable to help but watch them die and feeling guilty for seizing the opportunity to escape.

Then, he took a deep breath, wiped his tears, and quietly but swiftly departed.

From that moment on, he felt like his steps, floating due to the recent turn of events, suddenly anchored to the ground, weighed down by something heavy on his chest.

He had to survive, absolutely not be eaten by these monsters!

With the experience of the last encounter in mind, Fu Shiwu paid special attention to the hidden corners, the turning points, and also kept an eye on elevated spots.

No longer stopping every few steps, he briskly retraced his steps along the wall where he'd come from, back to the Heavenly Cinema.

Upon entering the cinema, he didn't, as before when discovering the target, overlook his surroundings due to excitement. He looked carefully, finding no traces of the aberration. He quickly ran to the SUV's side.

Creating a gap in the car, Fu Shiwu opened the door and entered the bomb shelter.

Wen Zhaoming heard faint footsteps in the passage, and his eyes immediately looked over.

"Shiwu? Is that you?" he couldn't help but ask.

"It's me!" Fu Shiwu appeared tense, "I got the stuff!"

"That's great!" Wen Zhaoming breathed a sigh of relief.

Fu Shiwu swiftly walked to Tang Xuhai's side. With a swift motion, he swung the backpack in front, unzipped it, and pulled out a thermometer, bending to place it in Tang Xuhai's mouth.

Kneeling beside Tang Xuhai, he grabbed the medicine box one by one. His expression remained stern, his gaze sharp, exuding an indescribable intensity.

How come he seemed a bit different after being out for a while? Wen Zhaoming frowned, thinking uncertainly.

"Zhaoming?" Fu Shiwu suddenly turned his head, his gaze sharp on Wen Zhaoming.

Wen Zhaoming instinctively straightened his back. His voice tense, he asked, "What's wrong?"

Fu Shiwu stared at him for a moment, then slowly asked, "Can you do IV?"

Wen Zhaoming paused, his lips trembling slightly. After a while, he said, "I'm sorry, I can't..."

Fu Shiwu's gaze softened instantly. He slumped his shoulders in disappointment, transitioning from kneeling on one leg to sitting, "What should we do? I don't know either."

That air about him vanished instantly, and Wen Zhaoming heaved a sigh of relief.

At that moment, Fu Shiwu reverted back to his usual self.
