The furious roar of the Golden Dragon reverberated across the sea.
Still echoing.
—"I'll eat you all!"
—"All you!"
—"You all!"
—"All!"
However, in the ears of most people, it sounded like a long dragon's lament.
To be precise, humans couldn't hear any sound at all because this kind of noise in their ears only made them buzz.
It wasn't until the Golden Dragon had finished its declaration, feeling satisfied that it had warned the surrounding creatures, that it returned to the sea, accompanying its little dragon, spitting pearls.
The humans on the island had been shaken to the point where they couldn't even crawl.
Especially after that dragon's cry just now, the entire island seemed to vibrate, even the coconuts fell from the trees due to the shaking.
It took quite a while before a group of people could help each other up.
"Boss, what the hell was that, huh? My ears hurt."
"Speak louder; I can't hear what you're saying!"
"I said my ears hurt!!"
Zeng Nan's face turned grim, and he didn't join in the loud conversation among his subordinates. Instead, he looked into the distance at the now calm sea.
Some of his subordinates who had managed to stand up unsteadily asked, "Boss, what do we do now? Are we still going out to sea?"
Zeng Nan: "Let's go fishing near the shore first. Don't go too far; this thing is huge, it shouldn't come near the coast."
But ever since the end of the world, it seemed that fish near the shore had become scarce, as if they knew that humans no longer had high-tech equipment. To fill their stomachs, they still had to row out to the deep sea.
Zeng Nan was also pondering another question: Did that mermaid know about such sea monsters in the deep sea? If she did, how did she survive before?
To be honest, although he had been highly vigilant about mermaids all along, Zeng Nan couldn't understand why this mermaid, who could survive in the sea, had to appear with such a soft and innocent demeanor. Wasn't that just saying, "I'm deceiving you, I have a conspiracy, don't trust me"?
This was the sea, a place that even humans didn't dare to explore too deeply, especially before they lost their advantage. Zeng Nan couldn't believe that the mermaid, who appeared so weak, could survive in the sea.
But if the mermaid didn't appear weak and still chose to approach them in this way, he couldn't understand the reason either.
Of course, Zeng Nan didn't know that the Sea Witch was just a bad-tempered creature who enjoyed playing with people's hearts. She had just been unlucky enough to encounter a young Sea Witch, which exposed her vulnerability.
But no matter what, the mermaid who was willing to communicate openly with them, despite the unknown enmity, was still more reassuring than the giant monster that attacked them with sound waves.
Now, she was looking forward to encountering strange creatures in the sea again, hoping to meet mermaids next time.
Anything was better than that colossal beast.
[Ding! Zeng Nan's Rejection Level: 97]
When she received the rejection level reminder, Shi Qing was diving with the Golden Dragon.
For tens of thousands of years, this was the first time a creature had accompanied her on a dive. The Golden Dragon was ecstatic, curling its tail and taking the little mermaid to a place it had discovered in its childhood.
A place full of sunken ships.
Boxes of jewelry, already corroded by seawater, were scattered everywhere.
Silver and jade had corroded almost beyond recognition, but the gold remained unaffected, still shining brightly.
During its juvenile dragon years, the Golden Dragon loved these shiny gold objects. Its favorite thing to do back then was to search the seabed and move these shiny things to its secret lair.
But as it grew older and evolved into a recluse, it lost interest in such games.
You couldn't eat them, and they couldn't keep you company.
But now, the Golden Dragon was extremely grateful that its younger self had liked these shiny things.
According to the inheritance, Sea Witches loved shiny little things.
The Golden Dragon carefully used its claw to select from a string of gold jewelry, and after some consideration, it gingerly picked up a crown. Despite being submerged in seawater for who knows how long, it still looked dazzling.
When she received the crown, the little mermaid put it on her head.
It had to be said that the crown was really beautiful, and most importantly, it was made of gold, with various sizes of diamonds embedded in it, immune to corrosion by seawater like other items.
Once she had it on, she swam up to the Golden Dragon's outstretched claw and asked in a coquettish voice, "Do I look good?"
"Very good."
The Golden Dragon appeared to be a doting monarch under the enchantment of the Sea Witch, with its two large dragon eyes fixed on the little mermaid in front of it. It praised her generously, "You're the most beautiful fish I've ever seen."
Strictly speaking, it was the only fish it had seriously looked at – the others barely got a second before becoming its meal. However, this didn't diminish the sincerity of the Golden Dragon's compliments.
Shi Qing was delighted and sat on the Golden Dragon's claw, allowing it to carefully select attractive jewelry for her. Although Sea Witches liked these ornaments, they usually didn't adorn themselves with them, considering that they were in the sea, where swimming speed was crucial, and wearing such jewelry could affect their mobility.
But with the accommodating Golden Dragon, Shi Qing had no such concerns. Soon, the little mermaid was adorned beautifully. While gold might seem a bit extravagant to humans, it looked stunning on the fair-skinned mermaid. The pure gold crown, golden bracelets, and sparkling diamond necklace accentuated her brilliance.
Her sense of satisfaction was overwhelming. The dragon's claw enveloped her protectively.
The Golden Dragon, like a proud parent, asked the little mermaid sweetly, "Would you like to go somewhere fun? I know many interesting places."
At this moment, the Golden Dragon was immensely grateful for its inherited memories. Despite being a recluse dragon, it still knew where to find the best amusements.
Shi Qing replied, "I want to go to the shore to find my human friends."
The Golden Dragon was taken aback. His little mermaid...had friends??
Shouldn't they be each other's only companions?! The Golden Dragon disregarded the question of how a Sea Witch could have friends and struggled to suppress its tail, stirring up whirlpools in the sea.
Finally, it managed to blurt out, "Do you like your human friends?"
The Golden Dragon knew about humans, but it didn't like them. They were so small and weak. How could its little Sea Witch be friends with humans? Moreover, with its large physique, it usually stayed away from shallow waters. If she went ashore, he wouldn't be able to watch over her.
The Golden Dragon's heart ached, and it added, "Humans are on the shore. My little one, you're a fish. Going ashore could be dangerous. How about I catch some small fish to keep you company?"
With that, it accelerated and captured a healthy fish that was swimming nearby, then released it into the enclosure, allowing Shi Qing to play with it.
Shi Qing, sitting on the back of the slow-moving elderly nurse shark, was patient. Unfortunately, the shark couldn't grasp the danger ahead and was still moving forward slowly. It was struggling to turn around.
The Golden Dragon, annoyed by the slow progress, threatened the shark by lowering its head menacingly, "You! Swim faster!"
Although the nurse shark couldn't understand the Golden Dragon's words, it could feel the tremendous pressure emanating from the giant creature in front of it. Despite its small eyes, its vision was still good, and it used it to observe the surroundings. It assessed its enemies and gauged their height, length, and the sharpness of their teeth through its visual senses.
Slow-witted as it was, the nurse shark finally realized that it was in danger. It desperately tried to swim away.
The Golden Dragon watched the sluggish movements of the nurse shark, thinking it was provoking him. It had to be.
He opened his mouth angrily, ready to devour the nurse shark that dared to provoke him in front of his Sea Witch. But just as he was about to take a bite, Shi Qing swam lightly in front of him, holding a familiar, enormous pearl, nearly half the size of a mermaid, and presented it to the dumbfounded Golden Dragon.
With her fair face slightly tilted upwards, she wore an adorable expression, waiting for praise.
The Golden Dragon: "…"
This little mermaid was supposed to be a Sea Witch's pearl spirit!! Wasn't she supposed to be that?!!
Wasn't she?!?!
The Golden Dragon, feeling stunned, extended its claw and grabbed the pearl from Shi Qing's hand. Then, it swiftly turned around and threw the huge pearl far away, without making a sound.
The Golden Dragon sighed with relief and turned back to Shi Qing, adopting a fatherly expression. "My little one, are you hungry?"
Shi Qing, still puzzled, asked, "That big pearl just now..."
The Golden Dragon interrupted, "Little one, do you like pearls? I used to collect many pearls. Let daddy show you."
As for the pearl spirit...
What pearl spirit?
