A few days later, Ye Zhizhou was discharged from the hospital, and Yun Ke, who had been missing for several days, finally appeared.
"Xiao Yang," he stepped forward and hugged Ye Zhizhou, burying his head in the faint scent of his body wash, kissing his earlobe. "I think I can't be without you anymore."
Unfortunately, Ye Zhizhou's sensitive spot happened to be his earlobe. His face quickly turned red, and he pushed Yun Ke away, feeling embarrassed. He scolded himself inwardly, "Speak properly, don't hug me randomly!"
Yun Ke released his grip following his strength and smiled, running his fingers through Ye Zhizhou's hair. "You look very energetic. It seems like you've rested well these past few days."
Ye Zhizhou turned his head to avoid his touch and angrily continued packing his things. Since their confession, Yun Ke had become increasingly skilled at sweet talk. He had completely abandoned his cold and aloof persona. It was manageable when they weren't face to face – he could ignore his text messages or not pick up his calls. But now, meeting in person was a different story. And Yun Ke had that irresistibly handsome face! It was even more devastating in person! Yun Ke watched him fuss around in the hospital room, occasionally lending a hand, and after receiving a few playful glares, he chuckled and approached Ye Zhizhou again, pulling him into his arms. He gently stroked his hair and said, "Xiao Yang, this is perfect." With someone like this by his side, he could freely express his affection, protect him, and record his lively daily life. It was really perfect.
The satisfaction and joy in Yun Ke's tone were too obvious. Ye Zhizhou's attempts to push him away paused for a moment, and he frustratedly pinched himself, silently berating his lack of self-control. Yun Ke, so gentle and easily satisfied, was truly irresistible... Did he need to reconsider his own preferences?
...No, he couldn't!
After returning home and having an awkward but warm lunch, Yun Ke stopped Ye Zhizhou, who wanted to escape upstairs. He looked at him with a somewhat predatory gaze and asked, "Wenzhe just mentioned wanting to see you. Do you want to meet him?"
Wenzhe Gang? Ye Zhizhou quickly switched to revenge mode and nodded vigorously. He had been wanting to meet this troublemaker for a long time. Although Yun Ke had taken over most of the revenge work, he didn't mind adding some extra spice to Wenzhe's life.
Wenzhe Gang was a well-off businessman, but after several days of continuous interrogation, he visibly appeared more worn out. When Ye Zhizhou entered the room, he only glanced at him briefly, as if they were old acquaintances, and greeted him, "You're here."
"Should've come earlier," Ye Zhizhou sat down across from him, surveyed the interrogation room, and joined in the small talk. "How's the environment here? Are you getting used to it?"
Yun Ke didn't follow them inside. Facing this frail teenager, Wenzhe Gang appeared quite relaxed. He smiled at Ye Zhizhou's words, lifted his bound hands slightly, and asked in return, "Do you think I'm getting used to it?"
"I'll get used to it," he casually looked Ye Zhizhou up and down and chuckled, "Given your appearance, I can't fathom how my dad ever considered you as a brother. Clearly, you two are not on the same level."
The Wens were not an attractive bunch, with their chubby faces, big ears, dark complexion, and a fashion sense that ranged from vagabonds to nouveau riche. In contrast, the Dus were all above the average in terms of looks.
Wenzhe Gang's smile faded, and he grew serious. His appearance was a sensitive topic, and comparing himself to Du's father was an even more sensitive matter. He had heard too many comments about how he couldn't measure up to Du's father since childhood, which had twisted his psyche.
"You don't look anything like your father," he stared venomously at Ye Zhizhou's handsome and refined face, his gaze like that of a viper, "I prefer your sister, though. Her appearance is so exciting, even just a glance is exhilarating."
Ye Zhizhou's eyes sharpened for a moment before quickly returning to normal. He leaned in closer to Wenzhe Gang and whispered, "I heard you won't admit to your crimes? You might not know this, but the illegitimate child you secretly sent abroad has gotten hooked on drugs and ruined his life."
"Wen Yang!" Wenzhe Gang erupted in anger instantly, struggling to get up, his eyes filled with rage and murderous intent.
"And there's your precious daughter," Ye Zhizhou continued, leaning back in his chair, facing Wenzhe Gang's murderous gaze fearlessly. "The moment you stepped into the police station, she ran off with a coal baron, taking the money you had secretly stashed away. How does it feel? Your daughter is quite clever."
Wenzhe Gang's breathing became heavy, his eyes bulging with evident anger. He seethed, "I underestimated you, you animal!"
"Not as much as you underestimated yourself," Ye Zhizhou's psychic power had already seeped into Wenzhe Gang's mind during their conversation. His mission was complete, so he stood up and prepared to leave. After some thought, he added, "Before I came here, I received news that your wife seems to be filing for divorce. Finally, I wish you a lifetime of living in your dreams." With that, he leisurely departed amidst Wenzhe Gang's furious roar.
After he came out, Yun Ke quickly approached him, reaching out to touch his forehead and frowning. "Do you have a headache? Is there anything uncomfortable?"
Ye Zhizhou was momentarily stunned but then felt his heart warm. He replied, "No headache. My... ability has no side effects. Don't worry, Wenzhe Gang will confess soon."
However, Yun Ke still looked concerned. Seeing no one around, he continued, "What about your recent extreme weight loss? Does it have anything to do with this ability?"
"No," Ye Zhizhou shook his head, suddenly unsure how to face Yun Ke's overflowing care. He decided to lower his head and avoid looking at him.
"Let's go home," Yun Ke held his hand and led him outside, seemingly oblivious to his discomfort.
As they were leaving the police station, they nearly bumped into a handsome man. He politely apologized and hurriedly headed to the area where prisoners were detained.
Ye Zhizhou stared at the man's back and squinted. Yang Wei, Bai Li's fiancé. He hadn't expected to encounter him here. Yang Wei must have returned urgently upon seeing his email.
Bai Li was still in custody, and from the residual psychic energy she left behind, her emotions were in a terrible state. Ye Zhizhou didn't know how Yang Wei would react upon seeing her. Then there was Bai Li's uncle... It was time to cause some trouble for him so he wouldn't interfere when he heard the news and thwart his grand plan.
Bai Li had been drifting through these days, her emotions out of control. During the interrogation, she had said many things she shouldn't have. Because her communication tools had been confiscated, she hadn't had the chance to secretly contact her mother and uncle for help. She was currently in a "state of amnesia" and couldn't notify her family through the police. Either her uncle was exceptionally skilled at covering things up or the police were incredibly inept; they still hadn't discovered her true identity.
When she heard that someone wanted to see her, she was still somewhat dazed. But when she saw Yang Wei enter from outside, her tears instantly welled up. She had intended to continue pretending to have amnesia, but her emotions were out of control. Tears and snot flowed together, making her look very disheveled. "Big Brother Yang, I finally see you. Please help me quickly. Someone is bullying me and falsely accusing me..."
Yang Wei was initially taken aback, but when he confirmed that the disheveled woman before him was indeed his fiancée, he hurriedly stepped forward to hug her, comforting her and asking, "What happened to you? Weren't you coming back for a vacation? I couldn't reach you at all."
Bai Li's crying paused for a moment and quickly subsided. She wiped her face with her sleeve and forced a reluctant smile, saying, "I had a car accident shortly after returning to the country, and then I lost my memory for a while. My phone was lost in the accident, and I couldn't remember where my family was... Big Brother Yang, please take me out of here. It's so scary here, and I don't want to stay."
"Lost your memory?" Yang Wei furrowed his brows. It was exactly the same as what the email had said. He concealed his hesitation and asked, "So, have you... recovered your memory now?"
"Just a little bit," she smiled with a hint of dependence, wrapping her arms around his waist and affectionately rubbing against him. "I can recognize you and know that you're someone very important to me. Big Brother Yang, I'm so happy you're here."
Yang Wei hugged her back and fell into deep thought. Combining what he had learned from the police and what Bai Li had just told him, everything mentioned in the email seemed to match perfectly... He remembered the chat records he had seen and furrowed his brows deeply.
After dinner, Ye Zhizhou didn't give Yun Ke a chance to pull him away and quickly retreated to his room, locking the door behind him.
He turned on his computer, found the work emails of Bai's father and He Ze's father, compiled the records of He Fangfei and He Ze's hotel stays, and subtly reminded Bai's father to do a paternity test. Then he bundled the information about Bai Li's arrest by the police and the intimate photos of her trips with other guys abroad and sent it to Yang Wei's mother's phone.
He had certainly reaped a rich harvest while collecting these sensational news, thanks to the female lead's "gentle care" and "boundless charm."
After completing these tasks, he closed his computer with a clear conscience, stretched lazily, and headed for the bathroom. He hadn't had a proper bath during his days in the hospital, and today he was determined to pamper himself.
The Bai family, the He family, and the Yang family were thrown into chaos by his emails. As soon as Yang Wei settled Bai Li's bail and arrangements, he received a call from his mother.
"Xiao Wei, where are you? Did you go to see Bai Li? Book a flight and come back immediately! Our Yang family can't afford to associate with such a woman!"
His usually calm and gentle mother had taken an unusually sharp tone. Yang Wei was puzzled and asked, "Mom, what's wrong? I'm indeed with Xiao Li. She's in trouble, and I..."
"Intentional homicide is just a 'trouble'? Do you know that while you were busy studying and researching for these years, she was secretly enjoying herself outside? Don't bother with her; come back immediately!"
Yang Wei's expression turned serious as he explained, "It's not murder, and Xiao Li is someone you watched grow up. I don't think she would..."
"I didn't believe it at first, but like mother, like daughter. See for yourself!" She hung up, and a few seconds later, a new email notification sounded.
The first thing he saw when he opened the email was two photos: one of Bai Li kissing a stranger, and the other of He Fangfei entangled with a somewhat familiar man on a bed.
His mind went momentarily blank. Ever since the engagement with Bai Li, he had treated her as his future wife, caring for her and loving her as best as he could. He had thought she felt the same way, but this photo...
And his aunt, if he remembered correctly, the somewhat familiar man beside her seemed to be Bai Li's uncle.
He scrolled down further, and his vision was filled with a vast number of hotel stay records. Five minutes later, he finished reading the email, put down his phone, and remained in a daze for a long time. After reviewing these records, he was absolutely certain that his engagement with Bai Li was over.
